Why? Because they keep getting burned. Everyone asked "why" about the CB1000R, ever since it came out in 2007. Now it's here and they aren't selling....

Honda's naked selections have the wrong price point to sell well. If the CB1000R was set up as well as a speed triple, it would sell...alas, it is not. You'll notice that Triumph and certain other marques don't have the same problem that honda does.

I'm sorry, I know we all have different tastes, but I struggle to find the aesthetic appeal to bikes with bikini fairings, especially that one that smacks of the late 80’s.

It's a CB400S that one is an '08 but it appears the only things that Honda has changed since then are the Bold New Colors and graphics (sound familiar).

basically i think ist's like the hottest girl in school you had a crush on but couldn't get. now 30 years later when you have money and experience her 20 year old daughter throws herself at you

I don't see how bikes with the bikini fairings look good, honestly the FZ1 looks great from the front on and then once you go to the side they all look like you dropped them and you were cheap to replace the fairings.
Also, the CB1000R,Z1000 and speed triple are not streetfighters. No production bikes are really streetfighters because every one of them are detuned with lesser suspension and brakes compared to their superbike brothers, a streetfighter is the same as a superbike just without the fairings (Most crashed sportbikes..hence the name "Streetfighter"
why? Same reason lane splitting and filtering is illegal, same reason people in cars 'don't see us', etc.
Because here in the U.S. motorcycling is a hobby and not a viable means of transportation. We don't get the bikes that other countries get because they are too sensible, thus unmarketable.
yes, this is frustrated sarcasm....... Sorry for the rant but I had 2 cars pull out in front of me today followed by the deer in headlights look after they realized what they did. This resulted in over aggressive riding and a foul mood..... I'm going to bed now.

The places my 919 has taken me:
I laid waste to a newer R6 last week while riding the 919 on some backroads, when the guy finally caught up to me at a stop, he got up next to me and asked "what is that thing!"
I bet he thinks it's some super fast sport bike that looks different. If only he knew.....
Point of the story, I love how when I'm on my GSX-R1000 I get those ohhhh yeahhhhhh niiiiiiicccceeeeeeeeeeee kind of looks.
When on the 919 I get that, huh, what the heck is that thing looks. You know, where you can see the eyebrows kind of move inward as they get a better look. It never gets old.

I think smaller bikes sell well in the states......................CBR250, Ninja 250, even the TU250 sells well.
IMO The guys that have $10K plus to by a bike in the states, usually buys something that is more specialized. The FJR's, the GSXR's, the Harleys.
Small practical affortable bikes tend to sell in the states.
In 1915 T. Roosevelt said, in a speech to the KofC, "There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all. "
I think the Triple's do in fact have the same "problem" as other Jap naked bikes. They don't sell all that well either, the difference is Triumph doesn't need to sell 10,000 or 20,000 of them to be considered a success like Honda does. Triumph sells maybe 2,000 or so and thats a great year for them.
Also, I think people find it difficult to be "different" on a Jap bike. If I wanted different, I'd go with a Speed Triple or a Buell. There is no mystic of originality on a Jap bike even if it is in fact rare.
We get screwed on other things besides motorcycles, not to derail the thread. I was just in Australia and besides all the cool bikes I also noticed the following:
1. I liked my rental car, a Ford Falcon XR6 (4.0 inline 6, RWD sedan) - great driving car that is also avail in turbo edition
2. Toyota has diesels available in the Tacoma ("Hi-Lux" over there) and also in the Land Cruiser. They are also all available with snorkels - would be great in Miami monsoon season haha
3. Gas choices are 91 octane E10, 95 octane no ethanol, and 98 octane no ethanol - it's clearly marked that way on the pumps. Nice (apart from the price that is)

god i would LOVE to have a tacoma with the 3.0l D-4D thats available EVERYWHERE else in the world .... btw the way octane is measured in other parts of the world is different... their 98 is like our 91 or 93.
