That's what my dealer said as well. He said he has the bare bones version coming, that would be the one I would want to try first - manual clutch and shift -
Maybe I could sneak it out to the local eighth.......
I always wait until I have seen/touched/ridden one in person before passing that kind of a judgement, who knows, what you say might actually be a compliment.
I doubt it, this is Honda's "flagship" and odds are they got it right.
Man, that there is picture perfect set of nares that would be great to show students how best to insert a nasotracheal airway into.
They really are clean and hair free, must have one of them Braun trimmers!
Well, I am a respiratory therapist, I see this stuff on a regular basis.

Did you read the middle of the report about 40-60 and 60-80 in hi gear? Also the rpm @60mph? It's evidently geared very close to the lowly 919 ( price wise) but the Hornet appears to be as strong or stronger in the 40 to 80, which means the street. I understand it's a Gentleman's GT bike, but, the house trailer looking muffler would have to go.
Actually, Honda has a very nice price on the remaining VFR800s.
UJM, you took my comments on the 1200 personally and decided to wank on the now defunct because of you reputation blog. I really think the VFR is a gadgety piece of shit, not because you like it, but because I think Honda just can't muster the nads to produce some class leading stuff. It has nothing to do with you cause I don't give a snit about you...You wrote this and had the stupidity to sign it so I'm gonna share it cause I like to share:
""It's a gadgety piece of shit" I admit, I have no respect for your opinion, you seem to have problems that I know I can not help you with, I do hope you get the help you need. Steve/ujm"
What, are you a wanna be psych student?
The VFR1200 strikes me as being a gadgety piece of shit, UJ.
You are like a zit that keeps popping up after getting shaved off.

Good stuff, I missed that part of the road test somehow.
VFR800's are cheap these days, at least the really NOS ones were.
I was surprised at how many digsd people are getting in on them now, the VTEC and such.
Great machines, always a tad too small and underpowered for me, sounds like the 1200 may be "just about right".

There is a 591lb gorilla in the room. Too much junk in the trunk, been there done that (ZX11). HM's web placed it in sport bike category not in their sport touring, right next to their 160lb less CBR1000RR!

I look at this bike and it's like longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.
Just like the BMW 1300. I wonder if that is a coal car bringing up the rear.
Honda stuck plenty into the design of this beheamoth along with that DN thing and brought us the Dullville but didn't fill any kind of nitch for an SM with a CRF based big mill. This pisses me off. I'm Back in Black if they put a 450 SM or even a 550 or 600!!!!!!!! The development cost there would have been dirt cheap comparatively.

All the hate'n on a bike that no one has yet seen in "real-life" or even taken a ride? Even worse, the haters will most likely never throw a leg over this bike?!

I'm 54. I've ridden bikes since 1968. I've sat on more than I can shake a stick at. I know what I see, daddy-o. So whatever you think is 'worse' or mo bettah is kinda moot.
Now comes the hard part for some to understand: I like all bikes, this one too. But it's entirety sums up to something I'd never own, ya know. I'd never part with the yingum for it. I'd never plunk down for a big Harley Dresser. Sure would ride it (Honda or Harley) if I had the chance but the likelyhood of that is comparable to me finding a mint 1st Gen Colt Peacemaker for $700.
You guys Jonesin for this bike......s'cool
Heck, I Jones for a Victory Vegas.

Motoracism at it's finest.
Or, just plain old arrogance, who cares......
When it arrives here in town, I'm on the list of people to call, I want to see it, feel it, ride it before I make any call one way or another.
For some reason, modern motorcycles do not seem to photograph well, pictures do not do them justice.
Gotta run - nice day here, might be close to fifty, cya!

It sure is a polarizing bike. I hate the pictures but hope it looks better in person. I am fascinated by the new tech but love the connection of a manual transmission.

I can relate with that, I'd probably have to go with the manual shift version.

You give yourself too much credit.
Then again, you do seem to be a legend in your own mind.....

Must be the 2011 version, you know the first year is always the quickest and fastest, might as well get the red one and have it painted
Might as well add a couple more pictures -
While I'd never do this to one, some people are into it -
Action shot -
View from the seat -
I'm ever starting to dig the exhaust, especially as it is functional
About the valve train, sounds like they went with the CRF150(+)/TRX(450R) style single cam set up.
I believe this design originally came out on - I may be wrong - a lawn mower engine!
Anyway, having done more than a few valve adjustments to that engine design, I really like it. At first, removing the cam to adjust the valves was not something this old screw and locknut kid of a guy was very excited about, but you know what, it is not that bad.
The shims are easily accessible once everything is apart, adjustments seem to "hold" for a long time, I've not experienced any reliability problems and the engines rev to the moon without any issues.
Nice and compact, but how accessible it will be in the VFR remains to be seen -
