I've been known to paint a new bike black a few times?

I believe this design originally came out on - I may be wrong - a lawn mower engine!

Anyway, having done more than a few valve adjustments to that engine design, I really like it. At first, removing the cam to adjust the valves was not something this old screw and locknut kid of a guy was very excited about, but you know what, it is not that bad.

The shims are easily accessible once everything is apart, adjustments seem to "hold" for a long time, I've not experienced any reliability problems and the engines rev to the moon without any issues.

Nice and compact, but how accessible it will be in the VFR remains to be seen -
According to the test in Cycle World, it has "threaded adjusters". Doesn't sound like there would be any shims or cam removal required.

Sorry to interrupt the speculation. Please continue...

Thanks!

I did more research, it does look like they managed to put threaded adjusters on there!

And boy, they sure look like they will be a real treat to use on the intake side, exhaust looked out in the open and simple.

I guess that the VRF1200F engine is not designed to be rev'ed like a "race" engine, and the added weight of the threaded adjusters will not be a factor.

I'll try and sneak a peak at the service manual, just to see what all is involved.

Here's one picture of the head - from the side, I want to see the exhaust adjustment -

Cool exhaust -

Here is a kickin' link - they get three colors in the UK

Intake adjustment, that is what I want to see, the exhaust, clearly visable.

If that picture is really the head off the 1200, I gotta believe the intakes are shim & bucket.

How have none of you guys seen this bike in person? It was in Cleveland, Ohio a few weeks ago at the motorcycle show. I have no real opinion on the looks, but I will try to get a test ride when my dealership gets one.

I'll there with you on that - the cam looks like it would come out fairly easily.

If you cut it in half if looks almost exactly like a Honda 450R head. A zip tie and 4 bolts and the cam comes right out for adjustments

My son Scott and I were looking at the front cover of the latest MotorCyclist and it has the RSV4 and the VFR on it. He points to the VFR and out of nowhere says "This bike is ugly, Dad. This one over here looks nice, but this one is ugly"
He's is 10 years old and pretty much says what he feels.

I'm going to try and sneak by the dealership to see if I can get moved up on the list, maybe I'll offer to set the bike up for free for him.

Gotta give it to Honda, they are not afraid to step outside the box when it comes to designing the body work.

Until I see one in person, I'm keep an open mind.

I heard the VRF1200 has some type of a restrictor that reduces power in 1st and 2nd -

I'd like to see the dragstrip results when that is "unhooked"

Might be a nine second bike afterall.....

Short Ride

Took dealer bike out yesterday (11-12-11). Felt great above 5000 rpm but felt a bit weak below that. My legs felt cramped, reach was ok. Pipe sound wasn't too impresssive (i guess I was expecting more rumble). Seat felt good to me, wind protection was ok. I only went about 20 miles. Only other V-4's I ever rode were the V-Max, Eliminator and Magna (too long ago to compare). I only rode about 20 miles but I gotta believe there are better options out there for the price range. Liked the FJR better, still gotta ride the C-14, BMW 1300 and 2nd Gen Busa (will mod for sport touring). Looking for a change in spring. Not an expert on motorcycles so maybe i'm off the mark.

something about a motorcycle that shifts itself, doesn't seem right.
