For the 2010 model year, Triumph will offer a special edition of its cafe-racer-styled Thruxton. It will hit dealership floors in the early spring. Pricing is not yet determined, though Triumph says it will be a “small premium” over the standard version.
The Thruxton SE will have a powder-coated red frame and Crystal White bodywork with a red stripe, a color-matched fly screen and blacked-out engine cases. Triumph says the new Crystal White paint contains a high metallic content that results in “a luxurious paint finish, and creates a striking contrast to the dramatic red frame.”
Regarding the Thruxton in general, its fuel-injected 865cc parallel twin is the most powerful of Triumph’s Modern Classics range, delivering 68 bhp at 7,400 rpm and peak torque of 51 ft.lbs. at 5,800 rpm. The engine shares the same 360¡ firing interval as the Bonneville, but also features “hot” camshaft profiles and a compression ratio of 9.2:1.
Sporty, low-rise bars, 18-inch spoke wheels, megaphone-style pipes, and a race-inspired stripe from tank to tail evoke memories of the Ace Café and racing in the streets, Triumph says.
Standard forks work better on more machines than one expectes. Lateral flex is part of suspension. And good when tuned correctly.
.
+1
Bike Magazine has an article regarding a guy winning over 100 races this past season on a Kawi 650 in the twins class, and he kept the stock forks (read, not USD) and just rebuild them.

I like the thruxton.... but I like the Titanium color they had a year or two back.
well partly cause they are cooler but mainly cause if they want it to compete with ducati, the majority of people will see usd forks and assume better. therefore, triumph needs some usd's if it want to be like ducati. thats all i am saying.
Well ... USD and Standard forks aside .... that is a pretty spiffy looking bike ... i like its style, and would sure like to piddle around on one to see how it feels ...
I've mentioned my wife's grampa here before. He's in his late eighties and recently traded his GT1000 in on a new SE. He said the Ducati was too uncomfortable, at his age I imagine a Lazy Boy recliner is uncomfortable. I was lucky enough to ride them both. Both bikes were attention grabbers, every stop light was a conversation with somebody. Surprisingly smooth and nice to ride the SE just didn't have the beans of the GT. Except for the retro cool beauty of them, the one I've got suits me better.

..... Well ... I know for a fact if i pulled up next to one of those at a redlight, i couldn't resist the urge to look over and say "That's a NICE bike dude ... " at least ...
I was out and about burning thru the country side when I finally rode into Smoaks, SC. I had to stop at a red light, the only one thru town when low and behold, a flashy red Ducati GT1000S rolled up next, you know the one I'm talking about, the one with the fairing and all, man, those spokes were catching the sun just right! Well, he looked over at me and my Bonnie and said, "let's race!" I reved my motor to let him know I was game. The light turned green and I having already spun the motor up to 'bout 12 grand when I just dumped the clutch. The rear tire broke loose but we were quickly moving off the line. I never saw that Ducati again as it would seem that his front tire caught fire right then and there from the fire shooting out my chromed pea shooters and he just threw his hands up and started crying, at least thats what the state trooper told me, at least thats what he said while he was giving my bike a big thumbs up! I thought I heard him tell me that he wanted to just touch such a bad azz bike but woke up from that dream before he could.
Now let me tell ya about the size of that blue channel catfish I hung down there on the Edisto River outside of Canady's. Now man o man that was something! I tell ya what!

Holy higantic ginormous pointless stories with enormous text batman!!! .... at least it was about motorcycles ... lol
Pardon Me, Mister Mike, I did't mean to imply that a "GT" had a fairing, Not BS, as much as I just miswrote the model name designator. What I meant of course, was the "Sport" 1000 S which does have a fairing. I believe I did put the S after 1000. Anyway,
My post was just a tall tale between two bikes like the ones being discussed.
Funny comparison to Boomhauser, as I did grow up in East Texas.

I'd really like to see (in person) the Thruxton in this SE White w Red color...might be really nice.
Also nice to see/ I wish they made....would be: White w gold, BRG w gold, Navy Blue w gold. Just my opinion. ;-)
This bike is NOT about ultimate performance, but nicely balanced performance. Very nice bike.
