Thruxton 900

As I was pulling the niner into my spot at work this morn I saw this sitting next to me.Triumph Thruxton 900. I've read about them but never saw one up close. Pretty cool cafe racer style bike. I think it's a 900 parallel twin. Just thought I'd post up a pic.

They are cool bike. I've seen a couple thay are being modified and they look cooler!

I'm a big Bonnie fan, however one thing that really pisses me about Triumph is their lack of a hot rod version. I got excited a few years back when word of the Thruxton got out as I (and many others) presumed it would be more than just a cosmetic change to the standard Bonnie and it would have a tweaked engine. Alas no - it is still the same - 'nice' motor.

Pumping out 68hp and 51flb. About as much as a SV650.

There is a easy 15% increase in both figures out of that engine without any reliability issues as proven by aftermarket kits etc. Common Triumph.

Not a bad bike but the one I had out on Triumphs test ride handled
like it was from the 50's. I would not want to hit a bump
mid corner. The 675 Street triple R that I rode next was amazing.
Much better than the 919 I ended up buying.

You're kinda comparing apples to oranges though, the thruxton is designed as a classic bike while the street triple is modern....very different bikes.

I love the thruxton, although I haven't ridden one yet

fun bike.

nostalgic looks.

easier on insurance.

single seater was the deal breaker for me. so i got the 919 instead.

I believe the cowl comes off to reveal more seat.

Ok, clarifying: my wife said that it didnt qualify as a seat to her.

She felt safer on the niner for whatever reason.

Edit: On another note about the thruxton when I looked at it...it wasn't fuel injected until....2009 I think. I didn't want to buy another carbd bike either. I wouldn't mind owning one along with my niner now though...but ill end up with Thunderbird sport way before that :-)

I got to demo the thruxton at the local triumph dealer, and I was terribly disappointed. It wasn't comfortable at all, and to be a 900, it felt extremely weak. Maybe I've been spoiled by the 919.
