Thinking about adding a 999 to my garage

I have always wanted a Ducati and I am looking for a sportbike to add to my garage. The 999's are now in my price range, but are still expensive for their age.

Either way, I can't decide if I should get and older ducati, newer jap liter, or practically brand new jap 600. I have about 8K to spend on whatever I want. I'd still have the 919 in the garage as my reliable old faithful, so I am leaning toward the Ducati. It speaks to my soul and makes me happy when I look at it, but worry that I am so intoxicated by the idea it is blinding me to better choices.

Thoughts? Bike suggestions that I may not have considered?

Ducs are cool but I'd go with a newer Jap or Triumph for reliability and maint. costs. You can get alot of bike for 8k.

If you've wanted one forever then now is the chance. Do it. Don't look towards the internet for conformation. Make the best decision you ever made/worst mistake ever.

I'm sure you're going to research whatever you plan to get. My buddy has a 2011 Monster, and as he puts it, "each mile is costing me more money". I told his ass to get a 919, lol.

You're welcome to hop on my R6, it's definitely not an all-day rider like the 919. GSXR's are a bit more comfortable, but less weight on the front.

If the 999 is a look you've never gotten sick of and still love it when you see it then you already made your decision. Especially if you have a second bike, and keep a close eye on the ducati's maintenance. Jap liter bikes are so cookie cutter IMO

Out of his price range! Sounds gnarly from the articles I've been reading (every mag has the same article this month).

I've wanted a Monster for a few years now. Was looking at them when I came across the 919 and saved a bunch of money.

Maybe in a few years...

Don't let anyone convince you to buy outside of your passion. The boner quality is high when you get the beotch you lust for.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, I remember boner quality!

Buy the duc. If you hate it, you'll be able to sell it in a year without losing much if at all.

I disagree not all ducatis are money pits yes its a bit more maintenance but do it yourself and save a heap of money. Ducatis have more soul especially the older ones. Plus the cool factor is atleast three fold riding an italian godess. Not that I have anythimg against jap bikes they are great I just feel he is looking for something with more character than just the breakneck speed most bikes in these catagories offer these days.

I've always loved the Monsters. Maybe this year I'll pick up an older one as a secondary motorcycle.

Nothing wrong with late model Ducatis.

Check out the big bore KTM's too - old stock new ones were going out at $8k

That should really end your internal debate.

I have a neighbor who rode a Ducati 1000s Sport Classic for years as a daily driver year round commuter, and he never had any problems with it. I was very envious of his bike, and he liked it alot too. He felt it was economical... He sold it a few months ago, and I was bummed to not get a chance to buy it. However after discussing it with him for a bit he told me that it was uncomfortable enough that 30 min - 1 hour was the maximum amount of time he would want to spend on it. He smoothed things over by telling me that I would probably be happier with the 919. I dont know if I beleive him or not, but I do know one thing... ***Ride her for a little bit first.*** Ducati's do not have a reputation for comfort, but they sure are sexy...

nice Duc! great choice! I had a '99 900ss for 6 years and i loved it. It was a good reliable bike also. I am still a Ducati fan and maybe I will get another one when my kids are grown. But right now i am enjoying the 919.
like someone else said, you have a nice pair of bikes.....enjoy!
