Motorcycle GPS

Anyone have GPS on their motorcycle? Street and/or dirbike?

Goldwings have them built in, but I often see portable GPS units on bikes. So for those that have GPS, what kind do you have? What bike do you use it on?

How is it mounted? Powered?

And let's see some pics!

Garmin Zumo 550 is an excellent motorcycle GPS
Hardwired into the electrical system and mounted on a proprietary mount. Weather resistant and can be operated with riding gloves on. MP3 player can play right from SD card and with good earbuds you can hear all music and spoken directions crystal clear.

the right earbuds are just as important as the unit you select because it's not helpful if you can't hear it.

Zumo 550 on my 919. Works well not problems easy to mount, and hard wired into electric system.

I spent all of $130 on my motorcycle GPS system and it works great. Used it many times. Involves a cheapo TomTom ONE, a cut peice of plastic, and fancy connection to my fancy PVC holder on my handlebars, a layer of bubblewrap in the plastic holder as vibration barrier, and some rubber bands to hold the gps on. Lol...... oh and a ziplock baggy if it rains.

I have been using a small Garmin Etrex with mapping software. It works great for what I use it for. Have a small handlebar clip it slides into, and when the GPS is off the bike, the clip is not very bulky or unsightly. I didn't buy the GPS for the motorcycle, but it ended up working on there fairly nicely.

Here is an older picture.

Same here. Works great on the bike or in the car and came with mounts for both. I use a Scala Rider 2 Bluetooth headset, which also works great, but is a little tought to hear at highway speeds. Could be I have a noisy helmet.

I have the Magellan Crossover mounted with a RAM unit.....good unit but not nearly as user freindly as I had hoped, in all honesty I also have a TomTom One for the car that I paid $149 for and I find I like it better than the $500 Magellan Crossover.

TomTom OneXL on a ram mount to the bars on my 919. The factory cig-lighter power cord is run under my tank to the seat area where a relay actuated (fuse protected) box has a pig tailed 12 volt cig-lighter recepticle attached.

I know there are better GPS units for bikes, but my budget is always a consideration. Other than washing out in direct sun I have zero complaints about my setup.

+1 on the Etrex. I have a Etrex Vista with the road maps. It works fine but it doesn't seem to navigate as well as some of the road specific units. I have a car adapter plug under the seat that I use to keep the backlight on at night.
