We've all seen these damn people with train horns on their car, going around pretty much scaring the ish out of people. We've all seen these damn people in their cars who look as us on a motorcycle straight in the eye, then proceed to move into our lane as if we weren't there...
Now, this could end well, scaring them back into their lane, or this could end badly causing them to violently jerk into us (me, rather). I donno about you guys but my horn simply doesn't do crap when it comes to people cutting me off or merging into me. Do I step it up a notch or just continue doing what I'm doing. On top of that, how impossible is it to discretely fit such a thing onto a naked bike. Maybe I should just get a Hella Supertone?
I like having a louder horn on the bike and there are some good options for fairly discreet noise-makers. I have a similar horn to rmb's - a Wolo Bad Boy - it appears to be setup slightly different. The air pump portion is seperate on the Wolo and mounted under the side cover by the battery. In my pic you can see the air line running down to the horn itself (I'm sure the line can be better hidden than mine is). A quick google shows the the Stebel is louder (118 vs 139 dB) but a bit more expensive ($65 vs $38) than the Wolo. I've always found the Wolo to be a waker-upper, but another 20 dB couldn't hurt!

I was trying to find out how loud the Stebel was last night when k1w first posted about it, that's friggin IMPRESSIVE, I'm going to have to pick that puppy up! Thanks guys.
Looking up the Stebel horns, it seems that chinese companies are making knockoffs and selling them cheaply. Which sucks because if you want the product advertised you have to buy it directly ($115+ship) through the manufacturer.
There are also the Hella Supertone (twin horn kit). I wanted something that didn't require running relay and wires (Stebel) but is still an upgrade. I bought the knockoffs which claim to be the same but not labeled Hella. I have the 500hz horn, and still have the 300hz sitting around. $15 shipped if your interested
Looks just like this without the HELLA markings. Direct stock replacement

I found space on a Hornet 900 (=919) to mount a pair of Stebel TM80's. That wakes 'em up.
Hey, can you post a pic or 2? I just bought 2 sets of these. One for the wife's bike and one for the 919. Maybe that'll get the ass-hats off the damb phone! When the icecream man is rolling with a phone on the side of his head, it's time for drastic measures!!

Sure. I've tidied up the heat-wrap since taking these photos, but this is how they've been, uh, hanging for some months now.
Judging from the reactions I've been getting, the sound gets all the way inside the cage....
It's tough. On the road, we are the bottom of the food chain despite having the ultimate power to weight ratios. Even the shitty little smart cars and the quaint Fiat 500 can push us around. We are one amongst an endless procession of oncoming and t-boning misfits. My cheapshit horns have worked in the past, then again they haven't worked, too.
My advice is this:
Get a horn that is just short of pulling so much current that your bike stalls then blow some texting numbskulls eardrums out!

Nice! I may just have to coppy cat that!
Did you paint them black? Think the ones I ordered are chrome...

No, they arrived that way, a dull silver top over a black body.
They are hanging from an angled strap that uses the OE mount point. If you fuss and fiddle long enough, you'll find a way to do it AND follow all the recommendations about installation angles to keep the rain out.
BTW, mine came with a relay that I didn't install. Blew a fuse once, but not immediately I installed the horns- it was a bit puzzling. But anyway, I then bumped the fuse to 20 amps for that circuit (a somewhat bush engineering solution, I know) and haven't had a problem since.
