Snicker - "Honda has launched a new Motorcycle Technology "Picturebook" website to serve as an easy-to-understand guide to the OEM's advanced motorcycle technologies " -- snicker ---- "The first technology to be featured is Honda's Human-Friendly Transmission (HFT), the continuously variable, belt-free automatic transmission compact enough to be installed on a sport bike and currently in use on the DN-01." --- snicker, yeah, thats what the consumer wants , an sutomatic sport bike , snicker ----
that was way more information than I wanted to know about a transmission that I hope never ends up on any bike I own. I can't imagine that design taking the abuse of sport riding through the back roads.
There are two on the showroom floor where I work. Bets are that they'll never sell, just like the '89 Pacific Coast hidden in the back of the showroom floor.
Just remember what the "real" bikers were saying back in the 60's when Honda entered the market in full swing? How could anyone want one of those bikes? Especially the cheesy advertising ... hmmmm?

Decent concept, wrong application for startup. Should've been used on a smaller, lighter bike to help those few out that want to ride a motorcycle, but don't know how to use a manual trans. I am sure those few greatly outnumber the few that want the DN-01.

Yah, what do all those millions that have bought or buying scooters (non-shifting) want with an automatic? The largest potential market is not the demographic on this site. Look globally, less ethnocentricly.

i wonder if the HFT is similar to what Honda was devoping with their downhill mtn bike. The mtn bike they had was never ment for the bicycle market, but only to be a testing ground for the cvt transmission it had. The cvt on the bike was hidden for quite a while so no one could see how it worked.
That dn 01 bike is hidious. I saw one the other day and had no idea what it was.
Wow, real breakthrough technologically speaking. It will no doubt end up in the museum of motorcycle stuff right next to the "hondamatic" from a decade or two ago.

My dad rode the Hondamatic once and said it was the hardest thing to ride. He said having to remember ALWAYS when you stop to manhandle the front break, and if the wheel was slightly turned the friggin thing tried to push you over! For example if the ft wheel is turned to the right when you stop, the bike is gonna want to push you to the left! WTF!!! I wonder if the new auto still does that?

women riders are the fastest growing part of motorcycles sales....snicker...i think honda knows what there doing
More women in motorcycling is exactly what we need ! Im all for it ! Im just not sure that they have made a bike that will appeal to the new women rider - $ 15,599 is ALOT of cash for a new rider to plunk down for a new bike that will more likely than not be dropped and other wise abused . I stil lthink most new riders will be more drawn to stuff like the Suzuki Burgman. At $6599, theres alot less cash out lay involved and Im sure the majority of new riders dont really carre abotu some new innovation in the transmission --
We shall see ! Just like the afore mentioned Hoindamataic !!
