Do some searching here, there are lots of comparisons of the sound. Also, I think I remember seeing a set of de-baffled cans in the classifies recently.

Talk to Blackheart, he might still have some for sale. Debaffled for your convenience. Debaffled OEM cans for sale

Unless you really want to try and do it yourself, just check the classifieds (or post a WTB) for de-baffleled cans. Once I read the how-to I decided it would be way to easy for me to destroy my mufflers (you may be more mechanically inclined than me however) I picked up a set already de-baffeled for like 125 shipped that were in near perfect condition.

As far as the sound I think they sound pretty dang good, but I'm also a tightwad and the fact that they didn't cost me between 5-8 hundred dollars makes them sound even more awesome to me.
My only complaint is sometimes at about 70mph or so I do get a drone in my helmet, not sure if that happens with all pipes that are louder than stock since I haven't tried any though.

I bought some debaffled pipes here, put them on my bike and loved them... for about a week.

I had the same drone at 70mph that TheBeeDeeGee mentioned. Any ride longer than 10 miles or so was absolutely horrible without earplugs in. I know I should always wear ear plugs... but sometimes it's nice to just hop on the bike and let it rip.

I ended up caving and picked up a single sided exhaust from another member here and that is a NICE exhaust. Quieter at idle than the debaffled cans (but still louder than stock), but screams at WOT. Best part is that the 55-70 MPH drone in the helmet is gone.

I've since sold (or gave away) the debaffled exhausts.

My 2c, if you really want to give it a try, put something up on the WTB board... I'm sure there are a few people around here with sets taking up space in their garage.
