Who wants to run against my S4? Would be fun to stage some tests with different bikes. I know the Super Duke could beat it, at least off the line, not sure about FJR, and the XR650L is toast!
Let's find a camera and see how a 40k mile S3 does against the S4!

I had a 68 Cuda with gobs of engine work to a punched out 440 on NOS set up for the Quarter it could beat a lot of bikes from a dead stop but they would always take me on top end
Some of my Subaru friends are attending "Targa Newfoudland" right now. Here is a quick vid showing three cars that came from out west for this years targa. Ferrari Enzo, Saleen F7, Lambo LP640 with a twin turbo setup and a Maserati MC12. The Lambo, Massreatti and Enzo are all owned by the same owner.......The MC12 is his wifes!!!
Is italdesign still around? Thought they pushed design for cars that was pretty awesome.
I have driven thousands of cars, Almost everything I've dreamt of as a kid being a valet in college.
The fastest I've driven was 160 in a viper ( not while on the job aka ferries bueller style) before I realized that's attempted manslaughter if I got lasered.
For me, I realized ill never utilize the full potential of a litre bike, and 400 HP doesn't do me any good unless I'm going to haul a boat.
I'm happy with my completely reliable Ford fusion and bullet proof 919. My wallet is heavier, my license has not a single offense, and my insurance agent sends me a pie every thanksgiving for making him the easiest money he knows.
I love speed, cars, and bikes. But speeding and racing are things I rarely participate in. Not because I don't get the urge or thrill...
It's because someday, my 5 year old son will probably thank me.
It's the other people that think they can race that scare me, because in all reality, you do look silly. At least on the street. Take it to the track and keep it there.
I do respect your spending power however. I'm saving for my peaceful lakehome .

If you can afford fast cars, and enjoy them, then why not? I've had an assortment of nice vehicles, but my 2011 S4 is the fastest by far. Haven't been driving it much this summer as our city streets have been under major construction and low profile tires and potholes don't mix, but got it out this week for a few days and fell in love again. Something about nailing the pedal and feeling it launch forward with motorcycle-like power, nothing like it!
The s4 is a good ride. Like I stated earlier in the thread, my friends bro had a pretty good amount invested in his s4. I respect those cars, and ANY high performance car. It's the racing on the street that Almost kills me or someone I love that bugs me a bit.
If you can afford it, and are responsible, I bow to you.

Time and place for everything.
When I'm on the highway and see a superbike do 130+ MPH past us as they go in/out of traffic, I can honestly say that I always hope to see them up ahead in a tree or in the guardrail.
On the flip side there's times when I get on it in my car or bike. I make a point that if I'm going to kill anyone it will be myself. Highway runners, people who race on the street, people who go in/out of traffic playing cat/mouse..... they can all crash and burn up. I could careless.
I rarely ride with more then one or two people, anytime in the past I've done larger group rides, there's always someone in the group who wants to do wheelies nonstop or do full blown top end highway runs. At that point I always break away from the group.

Jeffie, just for you (only because I noticed the type of car he was driving, not that you drive like that. At least I hope you don't...) :
I dont know if anyone has seen this one, but its an older 300zx racing a 919.
yup, and pathetic attempt on the 300 zx's part as well
i raced an older 300z a couple of months ago on the freeway but not at those speeds. i was merging on and he refused to move over so i could merge so instead of braking i simply hammered it and put myself in front of him with room to spare. he evidently didnt like that so he changed lanes and passed me at ~20+ over the speed limit, got in front of me, hit his brakes and resumed the speed limit. seeing that it was a highschool kid, i figured i'd poke some fun at him so i changed lanes, pulled up along side him, turned my torso to him and pointed at him with my right hand and indicated i was laughing at him by putting my left hand over my mouth. he evidently didnt like that as i saw his car lurched from changing gears and i hammered it again which left him in the dust. i settled down to normal speed and watched him in my mirror to see what he would do. as soon as we hit a nice clear straight, he changed lanes again and put the pedal to the metal. at that point i didn't even give him a chance i just hammered it in 6th gear. saw that he was gaining and ended up about 45 feet behind me when i decided to shift down to 5th and then just toasted him. he didnt try anything after that
Kept pace with a Ferrari from about 5 to 90, but I don't think either of us were hammering it as hard as we could. Just friendly speeding til we both turned off to our destinations (both with a simultaneous wave). Love the people in Austin. Funniest part was when I finally looked over, dude was like 75!

How cool is that?

another 75 y.o who confused gas pedal with brakes. Happens all the time
Bikes can be launched much harder than most high power cars on the street because of their relative weight and gearing advantages . This however takes much more skill and cajones (not to mention being skinny a little extra weight effects the bikes low relative weight much more than the cars) than to do it in the car....
Ever noticed how a bike like my 919 is about a 11.0@122 or so bike (average of most bike mag tests). A car that runs 11.0 like say a new Aventador is going WELL over 130 usually at the same finish line. The car , even with four wheel drive and nearly 600 rwhp cant quite match the bike out of the hole to 60 ft .....now on the big end of the track , once it gets hooked and moving its pulling up on the bike (and blowing by it at the line) HARD. Never the less, the little $3000 used 2002 919 matched the new $400+K Lambo in the 1/4. Now from a roll....

I'm new to the forum but this is probably the best post I have read in a long time. Good stuff sir!
Bike don't do much better on 60' than cars. They all run in the 1.9-2.1 second range. Cars and bikes. Unless the bike is lowered, then getting 1.8 or 1.7 is certainly doable. But thats no longer stock. A car with drag radials can easily do better than 1.8 and I've seen plenty of them do 1.5s.
The car just gets killed between the 60' and 600 or so foot mark because it inevitably has way worse power to weight compaired to the bike. The car allways pulls ahead in the end since its power to drag (wind resistance) ratio is better than the bikes.
