CustomLED integrated tail and state inspection

Any of you guys get hasselled that have to do inspections each year? In NC I have to do this and I really want to install Custom LED's bad ass tail light for the 919 but I'm worried I'll take all that stuff off and then wont pass next year.

The other question is, would it be possible to remove that fender section that has the blinkers attached so I could just pop them back on and wire them up to get inspected

NYSDMV requires "safety" inspection for motorcycles. The inspection states the following, regarding lights:

Quote:
Approved lights, including headlight, taillight, stop lamp and license plate lamp, at least one red reflector on the rear and directional signals if the motorcycle was originally equipped with directionals or is a 1985 or newer model.
I've had a Clear Alternatives integrated tail/turn kit installed for three years now. Never had an issue at any registered Inspection shops -- seems they're pretty lenient with their definition of the word "approved". I have, however, been issued a ticket for an unapproved modification. This was at a motorcycle only roadblock/stop on the way to a huge motorcycle gathering. I'm pretty sure the cops were just writing tickets and raising cash for the town.

If I was going to spend the money again, I would have just got/cut-down super short turn signal stalks. The integrated kit isn't the most intuitive thing for cagers to interpret.

the difference for you shifty is that you have the shit terrible clear alt unit. Dump it asap and get the custom led unit. You won't have any problems.

Thebee, best thing to do is call your local inspection station and ask. The custom led unit is brighter than stock so that shouldn't be an issue. The distance between turn signals might be an issue though. If it is, make it so you can connect/disconnect the stockers quickly and easily.

I followed supersneakysteve and I am glad I did. Got my light off ebay and install was a cake walk. He tells you in a write up or one of his vids how he made a bracket for the license. I one upped him and attached the small plastic where the dealer put my inspection sticker directly to the license plate. Looks clean and after being pulled over once, cop was surprised I bothered to make it that way since so many people put their sticker where it can't be seen (illegal in TX). If you want some pics I can post some. Oh, if you do this, buy some LED license plate bolts. They kick ass. All said and done for ~$50.

Thanks for the responses guys. And Brew if you have some pics of how you mounted the license plate and everything that'd be cool.

I have some cheapo turn signals I bought I might try and mount up with the tail light.

EDIT**Finally found the NC DMV motorcycle requirements. Looks like there is nothing in there about turn signals, but the license plate does have to be illuminated.

It does say the baffles have to be in the exhaust though 8)

In PA everything has to be DOT/SAE stamped and approved to pass inspection. That is unless you can find someplace that doesnt mind risking losing their inspection license for passing your bike w/o the approved lights.

from a distance that can't be that visable. do you have something splitting the inside of your tail light? that would "help". If not, it must be hard to tell

Don't know... never have been behind my bike before, nothing splitting the housing - just 2 white bulbs. 99.9% of the time I do hand signal thou.... as I am fairly sure the local law only requires a STOP (or braking) indicator.

I love my big yellow stock blinkers. Hell I'd put some bigger ones on there if I could! While they're not as aesthetically pleasing as the leds, I think the average cager has a better grasp of what a big blinking yellow signal means.
We need all the help we can get out there, somebody tries to kill me almost daily as it is....
