wow and that sucks man i hope this year improves. i aswell havent been on here much, i got a email on this and i had to come and see how things are going for you.
for me im getting ready to go back to work next week on the 4th, i can say im a bit nervous about it, i hope i can make it all day and all week. for me its been regaining muscle strength. right now im walking with no cane and have been for a month or 2 now, but i have a limp, and i cant quite make a completely tight fist. the more i work out the more im gaining though. it took me till OCT to get settled with state farm though on my bike.

Have you had an EMG test done on your hand? if they tell you to do so Don't do it , it's more fun to get stung by a box jelly fish .
I did manage to stand on both legs without holding on to anything and balance but there's no way i can put weight on it .
Don't really care about the pain meds so leading up to midnight Saturday i'm getting hammered and i'll raise a glass of bubbly in your honer .
Hang in there man, get better and get that $$$$ and a brand new moto-sickle

You bet i'll ride again , the ZRX1200r is looking mighty (been looking at it on you tube) good but i don't know i might be on another 919 when the time comes .
actually its not that i cant sleep but i remember just what your talking about, i know exactly what your saying. i almost cant remember how many nights that nomatter what the pain meds i had were the pain was keeping me up, no not alot just enough to mess with you, there was no go way to lay to get to sleep, several times i got outa bed and took my walker and went out into the living room to lay on the couch and i would turn on............okay now here is my disclaimer because i was desprate for sleep so i turned on ..............crap i just dont even know if i can admit this, even with the pain i was in was it realy worth watching (in a mumbling voice not making eye contact like my 4 year old little girl after she did something wrong and was admitting to it)
lifetime there i said it, and it put me right to sleep every damn time, it worked better than the drugs at getting me to sleep. i think my brain said it had to much and couldnt take it and would shut me down like a force close on the computer lol.
i will say i had a drink while the hyrocodone was in me and wow ehh 1 drink yep thats all i needed lol.
i thought about you on newyears hangster i couldnt post anything because i was at the inlaws but i sipped some captain n coke for ya. i still have 1 half jar of pain meds im saving for return to work. the reason i was up is because i found out im being punished for being out of work, they are putting me on 3rd shift and taking me off 2nd, they wont move any of the 3 guys who are under me in senority out so i can either go to 1st or say on 2nd where i was at. so i am up because im trying to get used to being up right now, and its not working lol. man am i tired i hate 3rd, i just cant sleep in the day. so ill pretty much be there till i am back to 100% then ill find a job some where else doing the same thing.
keep up the work and listen to the pt people yea it is gonna hurt but its worth it. beware of the phrase "deep tissue massage" its a fricken lie there is NOOOOO massage involved lol ohhh holy hell it hurts, yea you will probably need it but my god i wanted to reach right out and punch that pt girl right squar in the .............well baby maker, lol. my pt people thought i was funny instead of screaming in pain i laugh like hell, dont ask me why i just do lol.

Holy crap! Dude, that's a shame that your leg had to go, but like the others have said, at least you're alive (and thus still able to miss your foot). Now you can feed your upgrade bug in new and interesting ways as well, so there's that I suppose.
Get well soon, and let us know how things go. I would love to see how you plan on getting back in the saddle as well, I'm always amazed at the ingenuity people have when it comes to reconnecting with the things they love to do after an injury like this.
Thanks for the update, Hangster. On the plus side, this seems to be a step towards resolution. At least now you know where things will end up and what you will be capable of.

There are bikes out there that have paddle shifting on the left handgrip. That would be the easiest way to get back to riding (which hopefully you do). For me, that would be my best therapy, to get back in the saddle.

No i can't sue the guy , never did sue anyone to begin with , the 100k was from me being fully covered on the bike which i consider myself lucky to begin with .
Yes i'll be living with a prosthetic for the rest of my life but it's not that bad , today was nearly pain free and that was heaven compared to other days.
My boss assured me that i will have a job no matter when i'm ready to go back to work (again one lucky SOB)
The healing can now begin and i can't wait

Man you're been through hell with that leg. I really admire your attitude. Hopefully that's the last of the surgeries and you can get on with your life soon. I wish you the best in your continued recovery & rehab.
One can only hope to look at life as positive as you do!! We are all learning from your strength and attitude. I have no doubt you will stand with a big shit eatin grin on your face in the near future. It's obvious that you have thought this through (as the past posts have showned) and you are already happy with your decision. Thank you for the life lesson you give to us.
Glad to see you're keeping a positive attitude (I hear helps with the healing too!) about the whole thing. I have a feeling that the first thing I would do after getting fitted for the prosthetic would be to walk over to the dude's house and give him a swift shot to the jimmy with the new hardware.
Speaking of hardware, how does that work out? Do they give you a catalog of the types of devices your insurance will cover, and then you get to pick a few? I know that prosthetics are usually purpose built, it would be good if they gave you some options (I hear these guys make some sweet ones: Össur Americas ).

I'm sorry Hangster, I wish you the best in the rest of your recovery. I really don't know what to say here as I'm lost for words as well, but do keep us updated. People I know have always said a story or two of accidents with motorcycles, but as a rider you shrug it off and think about how riding is/was one of the greatest things you picked up on.
I do hope you ride again... You know those new VFR1200 come with a paddle shifter option... Even if you're covered by your insurance, I still feel like the person that ran the red should still have to pay.

i pray that you have a speedy recovery as speedy as possible broke my leg shattered is more like it in march of last year did four months of no weight bearing cant imagine what your going through being stuck on your but is the worst but it will pass dont get discouraged it will be a great conversation piece one day and dont get stuck on you physical trainers schedule make your own and take a lot of percocets and work through the pain
Well you lost your shifter foot and that sucks. BUT, you should be able to operate a shifter with a proper prosthesis (posibly with some mods) with a little practice. Had you lost your right foot I think that you would have some serious problems with rear brake feel. Also better to have no foot than a foot that gives you nothing but pain.
Thought about the dn01 but shifting is essential to me for riding , nothing wrong with automatic trans but that's not really riding to me .
Rough Costumer is right and it's still possible to shift with a prosthetic , especially in this day and age the prosthetics can be customized to preform specific tasks and sometimes better than a real limb .
I was told mine will have 3 different parts to it and each part has some 40 different options or so
I'm also now part of a support group , it was started by Brayan a real inspiration and a really cool guy if you ever get to meet him in person , we meet once a month
I'm very happy to hear that you're recovering! I know you still have a long road before you're feeling tip-top again, but you are definitely on your way. I'm also glad to hear that you're not letting your amputation get you down...Like I mentioned to you before, that was a situation I narrowly escaped awhile back.
I've known many people who are short a leg or an arm, or more who have regained almost everything they thought they'd lost...and many of them can perform better athletically than they did before. You will be back on a bike on day soon, if that's what you want to do.

hangster...your attitude is admirable. it would seem that it would be easy to loose faith and give up, but with the attitude you are showing in your posts, I think you make it thru this okay. keep us posted.
One more , one more surgery that i know of coming up this next tuesday and it is to remove the metal hardware in my left wrist , mean while we are working on the prosthesis for the left leg and it should go well i think (so far it's been one hell of a time dealing with phantom pain) .
It's a real eye opener when you experience it rather than hearing about it , if you think you know pain from small past experiences you are way off but thank your lucky stars you didn't and hope you never do know.
It's funny to think you are alive but at the same time you wish you weren't as the pain can stop if you want it to but most don't have the courage to try and nether do i.
