Skyline Dr. in October - Temps?

Thinking about hitting Skyline Dr near end of October....

What are the temps like ?

When does the foliage change?

Would probably trailer to Front Royal Va. and do some day trips from there....

I think late October might be pushing it for weather and foliage. You could get some nice weather but good chance of cold, wet weather.

Keep in mind you gain a lot of elevation as soon as you leave Front Royal so figure at least 10 degrees cooler up on the ridge.

Missing the foliage will also mean much lighter traffic which is good. It gets really crowded during the peak leaf-peeper season.

I think that it will still be a nice time to ride the area. I certainly will be. Do bring warm gear, but you should have nice ride and may still catch a little foliage.

I was just up there with the niner. I threw it in the truck and carried it up there for my week vacation. It was great weather up there. I rode all around Va over around hot springs, the Homestead and all the way over in to Snowshoe and the scenic highway in west virginia. Having grown up there, late October, there won't be much foilage and the high temps will be in the 50s. Lows could be in the upper 20s. Good luck

Smile Skyline Dr in late Oct.

I am up that way about two or three times a week. Best run for me is the ten miles of wild twisties between Sperryville and Luray. God I love to do that. I have started at the bottom in fog and drizzle and hit snow at the 211 ent. to Skyline Dr. That was pretty cool. Snowing so hard we could not see crap. Now that is Adventure Riding, just when I like to ride and camp. Count me in. The emporium in Sperryville is a cool place to meet. I can often be found there. The picnic table is mine. LOL
