Just a note and a few pics from the ride last Sunday up to the base of the Catskill Mountains. A few of us were clamoring for another run since the Spring Swarm in May. It was a spur of the moment decision and the weather was absolutely perfect. An early rendezvous(7am) in Andover, NJ on 206 started the adventure.
We ran pretty hard up through the best roads that Sussex County had to offer and had breakfast at Elias Cole in Colesville, NJ. From there, we utilized the back roads up to the Shawangunk Mountains and crossed over the "Gunks" on NY 55. After a short respite at the western overlook and fuel down in Kerhonkson, BMW took the point on NY 55/55A past Roundout Reservoir and into Sullivan County. The crew made a stop at the Woodstock Monument for a remembrance of "Three Days of Love & Peace" since we were so close to White Lake(site of the Woodstock Concert in '69).
A spirited romp down some county roads to NY 97, through the "Hawks Nest," and into Port Jervis had us ready for a late lunch at the Erie Hotel. The street was blocked off for a classic car show that day, but we managed to secure parking in the Train Depot lot next door. After food and and a refueling, it was time to say goodbye and we headed for home over High Point after entering the Garden State. Deb & I arrived back at the ranch by 7pm with 286 miles recorded for the day.
In attendance: rmb, BMW, zaq123, rob1100r, Queen Bee, and STDocLizard1.

this was one long ride for me, like bmw said "It was a ride to get to the ride"
But it was surely worth it. I finally realized my Satos need repacking after listening to them from 4am to 8pm
Hey Doc...Hope the Queen Bee recovered from the bee sting!
I was just as surprised as she was. Normally she gets "Professional Courtesy" from the Bees................ or maybe that's what happens if you run around in the mountains with a bunch of "Hornets." The Magna was outnumbered.

This is the original set with 54K from 1996. They were disassembled and cleaned in an ultrasonic. New gaskets and a choke plunger were replaced along with floats and seats from a previous overhaul. Too much ethanol had caused problems earlier and this season it just would not start without puking fuel out the overflow on one carb. Hence the ultrasonic bath. The tank and petcock were cleaned after it started right up on a fuel bottle and purred like a kitten.
We are going to try some aviation fuel(noadditives/ethanol) this winter when we store it wet.

Although I was just the 'assistant' in this tech session ... it was quite the shop experience. A good dirty, greasy, hands-on, nuts 'n bolts learning session with a very good mentor!
So far, all's well that ends well. However, at the end of the day we agreed that it's a service neither one of us wants to find ourselves performing again anytime soon ~ if ever! It definitely puts the shop rates in perspective.
Nice work to the both of you. I have done things that were a good learning experience, but would gladly pay someone to do the next time ...installing a house full of carpet is one
I'm constantly rounding myself out and adding skills to my repertoire, but, I agree, there comes a time when it just makes more sense to call in the pros!

There is nothing quite like the smell of 93 Octane behind your ears dear.
Thanks for the complement.
