as if our riding season wasn't short enough in MN, mine just got shorter last night. cruising home I came down a hill and was going to jump on a different highway at the upcoming intersection, I saw gravel in the corner and assessed it to be the gravel they lay down and press when they put on a sealer coat on the highway, they've been doing a lot of that around here this year. About to make my turn I look at the car at the stop sign to my left then look to the right to look through the corner (at this point I should have reassessed the gravel since I was much closer) wasn't going fast at all but as soon as the rear tire hit the gravel she washed out on me, stupidly I put my arm out and my wrist took a hard hit. Well the gravel turned out to just be a nicely groomed pile of pea gravel about 10ft wide. my right wrist hurt but I got the bike up and continued home.
Thought I had a bad sprain but figured I should get it checked just in case. Well I completely broke a chunk of my arm bone off where it attaches to the wrist. I meet with an orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday to see where we go from here but the doctor said they will most likely do surgery to pin that piece of bone back where it should be. so much for a sprain...
I was wearing gear so I have no road rash or anything, unfortunately it can't really protect you from this kind of injury. but always wear your gear.

Ballz... Hope the recoup goes well! How was the bike?
thanks.
bike is fine, only thing that took a hit was the bark buster hand guards and the homemade axle sliders I put on incase I went down. that's the greatest part about having a "dirt bike". and some how my one week old exhaust pipe did not get a scratch on it so that was a plus.

that really sucks, glad you are not seriously hurt , and when your wrist heals up you can always take trip to L.A and finish off your riding season in 80' weather.
By the way 'what is a riding season?' haaaaaaahaaaa
Don't be too hard on yourself for your instinct at sticking your hand out. I don't think any of us want so much practice at crashing that we instinctively find the perfect posture to absorb the shock at an armored point that won't send that shock through other parts of your skeleton - hitting on your elbow wrong could break a clavicle, going ragdoll might wind up with you landing on your head. You're hitting the ground with way more energy than the human body was ever designed to absorb.
Heal fast and ride safe.

met with the ortho today and he says I do not need surgery. He showed me the xray's and the physicion made it sound a lot worse then it is. I just get a cast for 6 weeks, and I have to buy a new helmet since I took a look at mine this weekend and realized it took a decent hit. all in all it could be much worse but the timing for me really sucks. Going to miss out on my annual fall canoeing/camping trip, I had a week off in Oct. to do nothing but trail ride, bow hunting starts next weekend and on and on. oh well, just keep telling myself it could have been worse.

Hope you heal up quick!!
Its pretty much impossible to try and not break your fall. Thats one of the reasons drunk people can jump off bridges and bounce around and not get hurt, they are limp and probably don't even know whats going on in the first place. They tell us at work if we slip on ice we should fall a certain way....right.
But, I am happy to hear you are relatively OK and its not as serious as they first thought.

Seattle lost its summer a couple weeks early this year. It always falls off a cliff in mid-September (15 degree drop in a day), but just for an extra treat, we got 3 straight days of rain for the long weekend, just to remind us what's in store.
