If you like to tour or just do long runs, look at the TourMaster Solution WP boots, which the Honda ST11/13 guys rave about. I bought a set years back and I've never had a more comfortable long-range boot - they just revised them this year (the 2.0 version) and those look to be even better.

For daily riding I use Alpinestar web gore tex boots. I don't know how I rode before without them. They breath and are water proof, on top of that they're the most comfy boots I have, even better then normal non riding boots. I can easily walk in them all day.

I tried a few cheaper pair in the 100-150 range and all of them felt like crap. Save up and buy a boot you'll be happy to ride 5 years in.

For the weekends I ride with a full blown race style boot. If I walk 5 minutes in them. I'm done.

I have had the Alpinestars web gore tex for 4 years. Excellent boot for the $$. They are a little scuffed but otherwise still comfy and dry.

Ach, this SUCKS. Did you get the bike back yet/any progress in that area?

I have a few different gear configurations, depending on what kind of riding I feel like doing. I have both knee/shin guards and a pair of Alpinestars armored shorts. Both are worn under jeans. If I'm really just tooling around town, I might ride with only the knee pads. And if I'm going for a longer ride and it's super hot, I'll wear the knee armor and the shorts. That setup is really quite comfortable in the heat both on and off the bike, and the shorts themselves have excellent hip, thigh, and tail bone armor. For longer rides when the temp isn't as extreme, I have a pair of AGV sport Solare overpants I wear. They slip right on and off, and truth be told, they're good in pretty much all temps. I could wear them in the heat, but I usually don't because it's inconvenient to store them when I'm off the bike, so I usually go with the shorts and knee guards, since I can just wear them around when walking. The AGV pants cost about $90, and I feel very safe when riding in them. They provide abrasion protection and some nice armor that feels just right.

It goes without saying that, no matter what combination of leg protection I use, I always ride with a jacket, gloves, and a full face. The only thing I've really been skimping on is proper riding boots. I need to get on that as soon as I can.
