I did until the Red Cross told me I could not any longer. Long story short, they randomly tested my blood, screwed up the results, and sent me a letter claiming I had some sketchy virus from rural S. America. (Which I have never visited, or even been close to.)
They retested it, found out they screwed up the results, and sent an apology letter. In the letter though, they stated I can never donate to them again because of a false positive test result. So, the RC screwed up my blood in a sample, apologized for the screwup, and I'm not allowed to donate because of it? Yeah, ok.
They do, however; send letters monthly asking for my wife's blood since she is O negative.
I used to habitually. The Red Cross would even give me an appointment with the blood mobile so I could donate when I went home from college. I ended up with a special card saying I could donate because I had jaundice in high school with mono. They changed their rules a couple years ago though and now I can't donate anymore. Can't with the Community Blood Center either. Guess with both if you have had jaundice for any reason you can't donate.
I donate every time I'm able. My company makes it nice because they actually have a Blood Donation charge number. The Red Cross makes it nice because free pecan sandies RULE!!!

You have to wait 1 year after tattoos. I never seem to be elegible. I would if they would let me. They act like tattoo artists are still using old rusty used needles that have been spit shined.

Generally this is the case for tattoos obtained while in prison.
I wish I could donate as I have a relatively rare blood type (0-neg). But ever since I got back from Desert Storm I've have been black listed from giving.....something about the funny little pills they gave us to combat chemical weapons.

They have told me any tattoo is a bust for one year. Prison tats should be a long time if ever. Something about sharing sharpened paper clips with pen ink is scary.

What a crock! Hopefully the pull their head out soon...
I've donated over a gallon (reminded by a keychain medallion). I use to make a contest with friends. Who ever filled the pint the quickest gets a free meal from the others. The hospitals are always in short supply.

I was just wondering myself about this. The last time I donated blood was coming outta boot camp. The guy wanted to take 2 pints cause I am O neg. Do you know if the vaccine series has to be complete, or from the first shot on you are black listed?

It may have changed for some of the newer guys. back in '90 and '91 it was a few shots and then a month worth of little white pills. As far as I know you are de-listed from giving blood after the first dose.

The way it is down now you get six shots spread out over the course of 8 months to a year. You are not completely vaccinated until you have all six shots. After that it is just boosters. You can also pick up right where you left off. Hmmm...I will have to check at the nearest center to see if I can.

I only made it to the fourth shot before they stopped the series...I was told, once the vaccine is in your body, you're restricted from giving blood. It was part of the briefing before being given the first shot. Things may have changed since, as that was '99.

Over 5 gallons of O+. Was shooting for the 10 gallon club. Blood drives have always been part of my management items. Every facility had at least 2 a year. Beleive it or not, it is difficult to get the Blood Mobile on site.

Ok, on the whole anthrax vaccine thing...supposedly if you have the newer vaccine, within the past 4 years or so, you can give blood a year after your last vaccination. This wasn't from medical though, just the guys I work with. I will know for sure this Sunday when I try to give blood.

My friend Tony Miglizzi was number 4 on the Red Cross all time doners list and closing in on the number 3 spot when he passed in 1998. Truly an amazing guy.
As for myself, once back in the early 80's when the RC asked me what I do for a living and I told them I'm a guitar tech and I tour with rock bands, they told me "nevermind". I was actually sitting in the chair with the rubber hose around my arm and they just said "no thanks". The irony was that I have never done drugs in my life, in fact I was once fired from an Aerosmith tour because I didn't party enough! Doc McGee walked up to me and said "dude, you're not loaded, we don't trust you, you're fired! True story.
Hey, I bet Bigdaa is willing to donate some of Async's blood!

I've heard of giving blood at work... Great job!!!
You mean you're not a ducks fan? .. I thought everyone in OC was.
Not to derail this thread into a hockey post....
I give all the kudos to ducks that they deserve.
I called them to win the cup early on in the season.(luck mostly)
They earned everything they got!
But deep down, I'm a Kings fan!
They have to win it at least once before I die!
