Completed my 3rd Texas toy run today. It was a blast. They estimated 50,000 bikes were there. We all strapped a new toy to the bike and headed for downtown Dallas. You outta hear that many bikes all revving their engines at the same time in the parking lots before we took off. From there we had a police escort all the way to Arlington right next to the Ballpark and Cowboys stadium. It was a beautiful day to ride, temps got up in the sixties. The only accident I saw was a guy right next to me dropped his Harley Road King just as we were rolling out. It stalled on him and down he went. (I think he tried to take off in the wrong gear) We picked the bike off of him, (that sucker was heavy) and helped him to a ambulance. He had an obvious broken ankle.
Other than that it was a perfect day. Here's a few pics. That's me with the shaved head & sunglasses next to the 919. The pictures don't really do it justice. There were so many bikes it was impossible to get even 1/10th of them in a single shot.
Looks like a good time. I'm always torn by those things. On the one hand, it'd be fun to see so many bikes tooling down the road together. But on the other, I always have this image in the back of my mind of one numbskull going down and 50 bikes plowing into the pile, kinda like you see in a bicycle race sometimes. So far, it's kept me away from mass group rides.
Wow Mayday! Looks incredible. Thanks for sharing those photos and also for participating. I'm sure there will be 50,000 more kids with smiles on there faces and that's what it's all about.

Hey Jay, I was concerned about that as well. I definitely was being cautious. Everyone was on their best behavior though and it was a tightly controlled event by the cops and the organizers. Max speed was maybe 50 on the highway, everyone was just putting along. There were no cages on the road with us and cops all throughout the route. I realize one person not paying attention could take out 50 guys but thankfully it didn't happen and a good time was had by all. Riding a motorcycle is inherently risky to begin with so I will take a certain amount of risk if the reward is high enough. I always have a blast at this event so I will participate again next year.
But I know what you're saying.
I like the GL1800 nosing in on the left hand side of the second picture...those yachts make me smile.
Yeah, those and harley road kings. I never knew the Kings were that popular, there were more of those than anything. Might as well drive a cage! I guess they might be good to tour with. Not my cup of tea though!

Oh, and I don't remember giving you permission to copy my hair style. Two skinheads on 919s. People might think we're some kind of middle-aged biker gang if we ride together.

Ha! sorry man, it just looked too cool!
I shaved my head on a dare bout a year ago and liked it so much I won't go back. No more helmet head. I could grow it back I guess but I see no reason too. I'm way past the vain crap, I like the way it looks. Much eaiser this way and no more shampoo to buy!
I didn't get to ride in the toy run this year, but I was on the west end of downtown when ya'll rolled through on 30 (or the AA center? I couldn't tell). It was thunderstorm loud. Hopefully I can go next year.

It's the one event I look forward to each year. Do it if you get the chance.
I've met a lot of good people over the years at the toy run.
