hey all , haven't been around in a while now but , i've crashed my 919 2 weeks ago and been in the hospital since (one more month and i get to go home) ....Got t- boned at an intersection by a lincoln continental , was wearing full body armor and it saved my life , 5 broken ribs, left leg broken in 3 places (thigh bone was outside my leg potruding through draggin jeans) , foot is crushed beiond recognition (will need 3 more surgeries) , left wrist was broken and just had surgery on it 3 days ago and hope it won't need more , bleeding in the brain subsided and the docs gave my a 100% thumbs up on that.
Bike is gone , engine is in 3 different peices (brother took pics for me)
Its going to be long recovery , 6 months to walk again and about a year to fully recover...and yes i will ride again.
I don't have a pc here in the hospital this time one of the nurses was nice and let me use hers so i can check e-mails , so don't be offended if i don't reply for a while .
The driver of the continental ran the red light and there was nothing i could do about it , just saw him out of the corner of my eye just before impact and i remember thinking the word shit , next day (my b-day) i woke up in the trauma unit after emergency surgery , it's been life altering but i'll ride again.
I am sad to hear to about this accident but it is great that you escaped with your life. Hopefully you'll heal quickly and fully my brother. Best wishes to you and I hope that cager pays for everything!
Glad you made it out OK and at least your senile. The broken bits can mend, but at least you'll be in a position where you can take care of yourself, too, and don't have to rely on others (in the future).
Oh, and glad you got past all the rantings about the sand/tire thing. Folks on here really are good folk, just like to have a good time is all. Oh, and I bet they all feel like fools right about now, too.
Push yourself in PT. It may feel like you're breaking something again, but the physicians know what they're doing. Trust em. And if you really do break something again, they'll just patch you up, lol.
I'm going to guess on the owner of the Continental:
If it was in nice shape:
Age: Retired and above
Vision: Poor
Hair: Purple or Grey
Money: Lots, go get it. Maybe this will teach them that they should have listened to their kids when they said "You should not be driving anymore".
If it was in poor shape:
Age: Middle of nothing, probably looks 20 years older than they are.
Vision: On phone or screaming dirty kids, not on road.
Hair: Ratty and in desperate need of a shower.
Money: Spent it on the Continental to look cool. It is nicer than the house they own. You can try for the money, but you might end up with the kids.
Get well soon and get a good lawyer. You'll need someone on your side to navigate the mess of legal bullshit coming your way so you can at least focus on healing.
Thankfully you escaped with your life.
I don't know if you have ever been busted up and repaired before or not.
I've had some bone type repair work done in the past, a couple of times.
In my book, a good Orthopedic Surgeon is a magician and good Physio afterwards allows the the patient to enjoy the fruits of the surgeon's hands - as long as the patient keeps plugging away, as you very much sound to be the type that will.
Your recovery will be long, and keep working at it, as you will still be able to experience gains as long as 2 years later.
Good luck to you !
I hate reading about theese nasty accidents, but it's also good, takes you down to earth and you realise that riding a motorbike is much more dangerous then driving a car..
I wish you all the best and hopefully you will have a speedy recovery. Try to stay possitive while going thru all this, cause it could have been alot worse! Hope the driver in the car gets what he deserves!
So sorry to hear about your crash. Thankfully you're still around to tell the tale - and you're keeping a positive attitude throughout your ordeal.
The entire WT family wishes you a speedy recovery and hope your lawyer gets you everything you have coming to you!
A few years ago I was hit by a car that ran a stop sign on a side street. My 919 was totaled and I spent a couple days in the hospital. It took almost two years of legal proceedings with lawyers and insurance companies, but it all worked out in the end. Be patient and stay strong! We'll see you back on the road soon!
Thanks for all your thoughts , i was sent home on the count of a doctors screw up and i'll be back for ankle surgery this wednesday, after that it's back to rehab for a month.
I'm holding up but in constant pain and the medicine does help a bit , i'm also able to walk using a platform walker to the bathroom and back but it's real hard to do.
As far as the crash the guy who hit me did not run as there were lots of whitnesses , as i learned from the police report he happenes to be a neighbor who lives 1/2 mile on the same street i do and he is also a biker.
I consider myself lucky as he did have insurance and my boss told me i'll have a job waiting for me no matter how long it takes.
Here are some pics i took , some are a little graphic
Helmet is a bell star and the hit was hard enough to crack the shell
I was also wearing knee guards , all of my gear was cut to peices by the paramedics
Brand new Knox Gillet vest ruined
My jack
et Scorpion Burnout
Draggin Jeans
Notice the 2 holes , that's where my thigh bone was potruding through
They did surgery on a broken hip and knee cap too.
Was also deshoed and the left shoe was never found along with the helmet shield and my glasses.
I'm going to draw up how the crash happened and post it today , according to the police report he didn't run a red light , it happened in a way you'd never expect it.
Pics of the bike are on my brothers cam and he is out of town at the moment .
hangster.. that's some knarely shit dude. sounds like you have a positive attitude and the determination to get thru this and ride again it's great you have an understanding employer and your job is safe, that's one less thing to have to worry about. Get well man
Just shows how dumb people realy are. Problem is even though he is a "rider" and he hit you. I am more than willing to bet that he will do something as dumb as this again. I drove the cage yesterday and becuase of reading this I was driving extra slow and double looked at every turn I made. Again man, we are all happy that you made it through!
