Slightly Confused

I just found this site a few minutes ago and since then I've seen an awful lot of talk about the Honda 919 but also a fair number of other members who evidently don't own a 919. Is this a 919 specific forum, or just a general motorcycling forum that just so happens to have a disproportionate amount of 919 owners?

Anywho, my name is Dan and I bought my first bike in 07, a Kawasaki Ninja 650r. The other forums I've been involved with are dying slow, painful deaths so I figured I'd jump on here and see what's going on.

***Edit*** Oops, forgot the pics:

That last one shows my ghetto headlight setup. I love the look of the light but wish I could think of a cleaner looking way to mount it. There are no front turn signals but I swear I'm not the least bit squiddly, I use my hand signals.

Welcome, this is a forum for all makes and models. There just happens to be a lot of 919 owners or former owners that gathered here over the years.

The 919 is the common thread for many, but not all WT members. Lot's of former 919 owners hang around and owners of other bikes hang here too.

Welcome!

Nice looking Bike! Here is the way I see WristTwisters, it is a website that is a come one come all for motorcyclists. It has many individual forums. The Naked Bike forum has attracted a high number of Honda 919/Hornet owners but the theme is still Naked bike. You will fit in nicely here and welcome!

Nice cycle you have there, you'll fit in fine! More THAT you ride, not WHAT you ride here. But you are correct, lots of us are either on 919s or had one at some time. Lots of good advice and conversation here on all subjects. Take a surf, you'll love it! Dave

I like the bike as long as you continue to improve the headlight mount.

Am I mistaken or do you have the can mounted to the swingarm?

Welcome. That's a nice looking bike. Not just naked, it's unclothed!

Looks like its mounted to the rear peg bracket. See the little black bracket.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, it's appreciated.

The can is actually mounted to the rear-brake master cylinder which is mounted to the backside of the rear set. The black bracket is mostly obscured by the rear set.

I agree about the sound of a 650 parallel twin with an aftermarket exhaust. It's been on over a year and I still love to hear that sound.

Things I'd like to do to the bike: clean up the headlight mount, install front turn signals (this is really just a matter of overcoming my epic laziness), do something about those rear sets -- maybe chop off the passenger pegs since I don't ride with passengers -- any maybe fit a belly pan or wrap the headers to jazz up the bottom, looks like it's missing something now in my opinion.

Welcome aboard, and now a serious question.

What do you think the primary reasons are for the sites that are dying and that you've decided to jump away from ?

What can WT'ers learn from your observations ?
As in what to avoid, what to do more of, what to do less of ?

I recently picked up a 1981 copy of Motorcyclist magazine, and the divisive letters therein are exactly what's being spouted on almost every message board 30 years later...If we don't hang together as cyclists, we'll hang seperately... have seen the "divide and conquer" thing happen before in archery(crossbows vs compounds vs traditional), shooting sports(long guns vs pistols vs glocks vs 1911) and almost every other sport... when I see the chrome crowd vs the squids vs the ATTGATT snobs, I just shake my head. I like WT because it seems to be a lot more tolerant of other's opinions, while still confirming that the 919 is the greatest motorcycle in history, and all others are worthless lumps of unfinished slag that are not fit to share the road with the utter perfection of a naked inline 4... sorry, got carried away.

Welcome.

I like where you are going with your Kawa!

I think a afternoon in the shed with a piece of sheet alloy and you could fabricate up a small cover to mount above the headlight to tidy up the upper area.

Bike looks cool - darn shame they don't do a 800cc version ......

I agree. Too much divisiveness on those other boards. It only takes one member with a bad attitude and way too much time on his hands to ruin the vibe of an entire forum. That, or an administrator who rules his domain with a closed mind and an iron fist.

This place seems cool so far. I really like what I've seen.

I tried to cut down the tinted windscreen I took off of the fairings but I screwed up one of the cuts and it didn't look right. It was really frustrating because I was almost there. Oh well, I'll think of something.

Welcome from the East Bay, NorCal. About a year ago a guy who lived nearby had a Ninja 650 with an aftermarket exhaust( I forgot the make) and that thing sounded pretty awesome.
