New from Champaign Il
Hi there,
I am a recent addition to the world of motorcycles. I grew up with a Dad and Grandfather who road but who never thought to encourage my interests. Luckily for me, I met a man who encouraged my interests so I enrolled in a motorcycle rider program. After the program I purchased my first bike, a 2009 Kawasaki ER6N. I am loving my bike and the riding. Looking forward to meeting more people and continuing to learn.

Nice looking bike; I love the color. I wish the 919 had come in blue (in the U.S)....
Welcome!

How does that fazer 800 run compared with the 919?

Sweet! How long have you been riding?
Also, I'm interested to know what gear you wear. This thread made me realize that a woman's options are much limited than a dude's when it comes to protective gear. Made me curious as to what gear other chicks are rocking.

I am currently wearing icon Bells textile jacket in small, which fits pretty well seeing I am all of 5'2. For boots I have the Sibi perforated in mens size 6 and Icon perforated Pursuit womens large. All of the aforementioned gear is pretty sedate being the traditional black so for my helmet I went with the Icon Alliance Lucky. It may get more comments than my bike:-)
How about you?

Well the power is about the same but my bike is no where near stock and i can ride quite a bit better than him so i really dont know ... all things being equal i bet it would be a pretty good match in both straights and curves.

I'm rock a Scorpion EXO 700 Black Dahlia, Shift Catalina jacket, Cortech HDX gloves, and Alpinestars Stella SMX 5 boots. My stuff trends towards the all black side of things, too.
I'm want to upgrade the Bell RS-1 Flash eventually. With it, I hope to add some color and some protection to my everyday ensemble.

Yeah I understand wanting to upgrade. The hard part is finding gear that fits right and that is protection e. I have gone through 4 orders of gloves and 2 sets of boots just to get to this point. The thought of trying for winter gear makes me cringe. But being warm is nice too!

You ain't kidding!
I can't imagine what winters are like up there. I'm fortunate enough to be able to ride year round. My office mate thinks I'm insane, but meh. Alpinestars Radiant gloves kept my fingers warm in freezing weather. They're the first and only pair of gloves that has ever kept my hands warm in the winter, and I'd highly recommend them.
Boots were tricky. I ended up trying on several pairs before I found some that fit. they were a bit tight at first, but have broken in perfectly.
I'm in the market for pants, now. I can't seem to find a pair that fits well when I sit on my bike. womens pant seem to bunch up in the front or otherwise feel super-awkward when I lean over the tank. I may just end up with mens pants, but they leave an big (potential crack-showing) gap in the back when I lean forward.
Argh.

Welcome to the Forum!
Now - I would need to ask you a favor - could you talk to my wife, please?
Reason - I can barely convince her to jump on the bike, and after the ride she only says "it was nice..." I do not know what to do anymore but not bug her at all, and then maybe, but just maybe she'll come to her senses...
I can only hope to live the day that she says: Come, get your helmet and take me for a ride! Slight chance of that happening as both my ultra-conservative mother and mother-in-law are praying that I sell the bike and in their mind, come to "my senses"...
Congrats on the bike and on your couple-shared riding passion!

My wife is also beginning to ride a bit. Looking at an SV650, but I think I like the looks of that ER6N even more!
How has it been for a new rider on that bike? Is it manageable?

Sorry if I'm thread-jacking a bit, poking around I found this:
Kawasaki : ER6N | eBay
$3700. Seems like a really good deal, an SV of similar year and mileage would fetch more than that. Is there a reason?
Gotta admit, I like the looks of that ER more than the SV.

The er-6n is very manageable without being out grown in 3 months. The difference between the two is the motor configuration. The sv is a v-twin the er has a parallel twin. Im not sure how the specs compare but i can tell you that kaw makes a low seat for the er.

It is difficult to convert a non-motorcyclist into a motorcyclist. Of my parents four children, all who grew up around bikes, only two of us ever went on our parents bike...and then went on to get our own. Just see if you can show the good points of the bike and see if you can make her more comfortable around the bike. Even if she never becomes a rider she should at least understand your love of riding.
