New Canadian Recruit - Vernon, BC

Hello Guys and Girls...

I just got my first bike in almost 15 years... an '03 Honda 919
It had a few mods already... then was "detuned" at the dealership before I made my purchase.

After putting 3-4000km on it, I managed to "get off".

Well, I'm looking forward to hearing from the adjuster now... could be a writeoff, maybe just a lot of work.

Either way, I'm looking forward to taming this beast - and learning to ride the bike as well.

I've been reading a lot in the forum over the last couple of weeks, and there's so much information, I thought I just have to join...

Hopefully someone knows where BC is, and is even close enough to say Hi.

Gord

BC to Washington

Thanks for the welcome guys.

BC is north of Washington... and I'd guess its about the size of Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.

Lots of smaller roads up here, not too many freeways or interstates (since we've got provinces rather)

Lots of things to do up here...

Anybody in washington could be seeing me this summer. as long as I get my passport

Welcome fellow Canadian. I know where BC is and have been to Vernon as well. I live in Alberta up by Grande Prairie. There are a few other Canadians on here and I'm sure they will check in.

Welcome aboard! I know where BC is...I rode through your area with my Dad almost 20 years ago. We didn't go through Vernon that I recall, We started off crossing into Canada in Victoria, then up to and through the Jasper National Park, down to Banff and then back into the States through Montana. I have lots of good memories from that time! Glorious beautiful country in BC!

Sorry to hear about your misadventure on the 919, hopefully you can get it fixed!

Welcome, good choice on the hornet, the next wise choice would be to take the MSF course to re-hone your skills after being off a bike for 15 years. It is well worth the money!

MSF - and Damage Report

Thanks for all the welcomes...

A friend of mine whom also has a 919 just finished the MSF, recommended it to me already, and I will likely take one - though possibly not until next summer due to finances.

For anybody interested, I just spoke with the appraiser who came out to see the damage I'd done, and likely the bike will be written off... he's estimated damage/repairs at nearly $8000.

Now I've got some decisions to make... at least I will once the adjuster contacts me.

I've seen an '07 919 at another dealership nearby, but they want $9200 CAD.

Any suggestions what sort of offer I should put in on it? Or alternatively, would you recommend to purchase the salvaged '03 and slowly rebuild/customize it?

If interested, I'll give a rough list of damaged parts.

How much is ICBC going to give you for settlement? Ask the adjuster how much to buy back the write off. My guess is it is not worth going down that path. Just go shop for another bike. Anything except the $9,200 2007 model. That dealer must be smoking something.

If you get a chance, go to Blackfoot in Calgary and test ride a Dorsoduro. Its a but more money but once you ride it, you'll thanks me.

He is in BC isn't he?

How about an '02 with 40,000km - any guess what that's worth? claims to be only owner, and bike appears stock/mint

I'll look up that other bike too.

as for ICBC, its insured through Beacon, and I'm not sure what they'll settle for... I'm also thinking the buy back route as well, might be some decent options.

Beacon will give you exactly what your declared value is, plus any optional equipment. They will also cover $1000 in gear.

Pick it up, Ride it, Mod it to the wings.

Farmer Joe:

Beacon is doing exactly as you said... I get to keep the bike for $500

took it to an inspector, and doesn't seem like much reason not to pass inspection and keep riding.

I've already put about 3,000 km on it since the crash, so I'm not too concerned about its rideability

I would like to get another one that hasn't been dropped, but alas, logic and reason says I should keep the change, and keep the "rat bike" as another WT member suggested.

Look for a blog coming soon, any suggestions on a title? Will definately post project photos, and I do want a ton of ideas, including good sources for custom parts....

It would be much better if the young lady would have spent time touching her dirty pillows and nasty bit instead of her dark spectacles.

What happened with the bike?
1. Lose the Gun bidgaa, then welcome to Canada.

2. Yes, she is a cute bunny - like most Canadia girls

3. The bike got back on the road, and I had a great summer, haven't restored the bike to showroom condition, but it runs... haven't put it away for the winter, though I'm not riding it anymore either. Not sure if I'll have funds to ever enter it into BOTM, but I look forward to many years of reliable entertainment on it.

I'm still glad I got the bike, and especially glad I found some great resources/community spirit on the web. Pacojerte sold me his old Satos, and efitzgerald sold me his '04 guages. LDH sent me a PCIII, and Ripper sent me the brake line gizmo. semi_gray shipped me the PAIRS blockof kit.

I installed some Renthall bars, F-18 screen, Aprilia mirrors, Givi topbox, SW-Motech crash bars, and red SS brakelines from the helpful topics.

I would love to paint the bike this winter, and I would love to tap that blonde.

Keep Ridin' eh!

1) Not a f--king chance. Not this gun or it's 26 odd brothers and sisters.

side note: What do you northerners do? Just lie down and become future bear schit?

2) Cute, yes, but you haven't seen So. Cal college girls, and I live in a party college town.

3) Good to hear. You have 'polishing' time come winter and that bike is gonna be the best of projects.

We're not "northerners" we're Canadian!!!
We don't lie down for predators...

BC Man Survives Cougar Attack

We don't make a big deal of owning guns, because we generally use them for hunting, not because we have such distrust in our neighbours that we feel the need to protect ourselves. I'm not going to argue you over the guns, I was referring to your avatar as a jest, and in the video, giving up your gun is the first step to becoming Canadian, so I couldn't resist.

I hope that I will have a chance, and a reason to head south next summer on the bike, maybe I can bring some REAL beer down with me, and I'll take a few of those So. Cal girls off your hands for a bit, and let them get some 'polishing time' in. Give you more time to clean your guns...

Wife won't let me play with the girls and I'm too old anyway. So you can have all you want but you need to eat all you take.
Now, hunting..............never thought of that. One reason to have guns here is having to deal with militant tree huggers and PETA freaks. Damn rabid mo fo's. It is good that you don't argue with me on guns. You'll just go nowhere fast. Oh, be sure to come and visit my berg in the summer, sometime between Jan 1 and Dec 31.

Why do you think our Thanksgiving is so much sooner than yours???

Oh! Is that your friend who was looking for a 919 a while back? It would be good if we had a WT ride for Alberta members sometime in the summer.
