Looking to try a 919

I have been riding for many years and have mostly been riding cruisers. I am presently riding a victory Cross country which I am keeping, but really want to try a more sporty bike. A 919 sounds about right if the bars are high enough to facilitate a fairly upright seat.
Had an st1300 which I liked but it was uncomfortable on my elbows even with risers (mcl). Have owned several Honda's over the years and like them very much. Anyway, I am 64 years old and a 919 or maybe fzr8 are on my bucket list.
Don't have a lot of money but can afford to buy a 919 if it is reasonably priced.
any help finding an appropriate bike would be appreciated. I live in syracuse NY and would probably need to have a bike shipped if I can find a good one since we are getting real close to 6 months of snow.

Hello and welcome! The 919 sounds like a good fit for what you're looking for, you may want to add a set of risers to the bars(I did) to bring them up a little. Dadogs has a real clean '03 for sale here, http://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/...9-a-28456.html , he's fairly close to you.

Thanks for the info. Wonder how much it would cost to get original bars and risers. I became fairly familiar with st1300 farkles and gizmos but am totally in the dark about 919's

I'm sure you could find a set here or ebay for a reasonable price.

Yeah I have the Renthal UL on there but as previously stated the 919's bar height, pull back, width ect are all VERY easily changed. Who knows, the UL's might actually feel comfortable to you as well.

You can also put a dirt bike bar on the 919. Pick a high one and you won't even need to buy risers for it.

Welcome to the site!! Good bike to have! I would agree to add risers if you thought the st was too low. I'll tell you what if you buy the bike I will do a trade plus like $50 and shipping for the ULs that are currently on there.....

I did buy the bike. It is in storage until March. I bought a set of Renthal high bars. If I find I like the new bars we can talk in the Spring. The UL bars were not real bad but after a quick 80 mile ride I found that bending over the bar was tiring. Also don't like the bar end mirrors and am looking at getting some new mirrors maybe Aprilia shivers or something like them.

Awesome!!! I hope you have lots of fun! Don't forget to read the sticky section even though i think most won't apply to your bike but its a good any way.

PLEASE don't forget about me in the spring. Those ULs are on my bucket list for the bike!!! If your getting rid of them I will certainly take them off your hands.

Cheers!

Congrats on the purchase. It's going to be a long winter of waiting, isn't it?

I rode FZ8 for about 150miles, it feels more like a sports bike than a sport/touring and it is not comfortable.

Other than wind issue Hornet is better in any aspect...
