Hey. I started riding 6 years ago at age 47. I bought a used Bandit to commute on and well, let's just say the riding obsession bug bit me.
Now almost 100k later, after much research and many test rides, I just bought a 2006 919 from another member here - so here I am.
My passion is touring so I'll be making some mods like windscreen and bar risers and bags. Any windshield suggestions?
I really like the look of the factory pipes which also came with the bike but holy crap this Two Brothers can sounds sweet. I will however force myself to pull it off and sell it so let me know if you're interested.
Anyway, glad to be here - I'm sure I'll have tons more questions.

Welcome aboard and nice looking bike you got there! If you are going on long rides I would look into another seat.... gets a little uncomfortable after a while.
Congrats on your smart choice in the right color. Your MPG will be better than the Bandit. I get 39 in the city with a fairly non-aggressive style. People will tell you 32 or 42, but most are closer to 42.
Yeah I used to get that a lot. They're camp fuel bottles filled with gas.
What mpg / range can I expect with the 919?
In sport touring mode, averaging 60-65 on two lane with full luggage last weekend, I rode 165 miles on a tank without the fuel light coming on, usually comes on around 150... never have ran it dry.

I just got 42 mpg when I did a 160 mile run through Lake Mead Recreation area at dawn...they aren't officially open that early, I passed only a total of 5 vehicles and 3 motorcycles the entire time; except with about 20 miles of light traffic at the beginning and 20 miles of light traffic at the end. So, I was able to keep the throttle smooth most of the time. Although I go about 60-65 on most of the straights, I nudge it a little quicker through the corners and esses when nothing else is on the road (I don't think I went slower than 75 through any non-blind corner, and I was over 100 through several of the esses that have great visibility ). I have a Power Commander set up for a debaffled stock exhaust.
Couldn't be happier with this bike since I had Ohlins Front and Rear installed. Prior to the Ohlins rear I was going to sell it because it kicked so badly. Now that the Front matches the performance of the rear, and withh new tires, the bike corners like it's on rails....at least, it feels that way to this non-racer.
If your into touring, why dident you just buy a touring bike? fjr sounds the best choice for you..

I guess I prefer not to deal with all that tupperware plus I'm on a tight budget. There aren't any FJR's out there for what you can buy a 919 for. I rode several bikes, FJR included, and none pegged my little fun meter like the 919 and the 1050 Tiger. Mostly though, I enjoy the rigging and farkling and and ultimately having a bike that is unique to me.
Last go-round I started with a basic street bike, a 600 Bandit and gradually turned it into a capable tourer. I'm looking forward to repeating the process.
