We did it. I got 595.5 miles on the clock in just over 13 hours. I lost LH on the interstate between Madison and Milwaukee but his wife told me he checked in and was enroute....and sore
There are some awesome twisty roads in our backyard folks. You just have to be willing to haul long in order to get there.
Yes, Virginia. There really are twisty roads in wisconsin.
TJ's gps has the ability to zoom really close to find those rarely used farm roads. these roads have unmarked curves and no center striping. and combines. which we rarely encountered. in fact, traffic yesterday was overall pretty light.
The roads varied from unmarked and lacking some maintenance to freshly paved well shaded riverfollowing. Later in the day, there was a 2 mile segment that started with 2 10 mph switchbacks followed by a sieries of 25 mph curves spotted with some 15 mph 90s. The key word here is segment. To have curvy roads, one must build them. Ergo, Wisconsin is a do-it yourself kit of rideability. There were quite a few road changes (intersections) to piece together. Bring brakes. It was all beautifun. Good for the mounted cam crowd.
As you see by the miles TJ posted, he and The Baroness are slave drivers.
Lets put this in perspective.
Homeboy has 12 grand plus on his new bike. Homeboy has a windscreen, roadpegs, and he works out.
I have none of the acoutrements and could beat the Snuggle bear in a softness contest. For those of you intending an uberride, BE PREPARED !
Sidenote: We stopped in Monroe at a 'Donalds for breakfast and this is where i discovered TJ has a serious ketchup problem. He filled 4 paper cups full of the stuff then proceeded to produce a kit. He needs an intervention.
Lets get serious for a moment. A ride like this can make one acutely aware of their abilities as a motorcyclist. There was more than one occasion where the niner made up for my lack of skill. I lucked out. After yesterday, I'm assessing what type of rider I am, and what type I want to be, if any. Yes, if any. TJ was really smooth in the corners and it's obvious he's serious.
I feel like a poser.
Yeah, I made it. And there were times I was dialed in to the roads. And I did have fun. But it's a wakeup call.
Overall, yesterday was a great ride and I wouldn't change a thing. Well. maybe time to snap some photos. TJ might have that covered.
No problem, i'm glad you had a good time. Thanks for bedning to my will with regards to the route and other details.
I hope you aren't too sore this morning. I know what a grind on the 919 feels like. Remember I got 18000 on my 919 in the 2.5 seasons I had it. <<<<that's why the Baroness exists today
My Dad and I are off to Janesville this afternoon to get a burger at Fuddruckers. The weather is still perfect here.
Oh, and what is this "if i want to ride" crap? Don't over think it man. Just get back on and do what comes naturally to you....slowly progressing along the way. If you were a bit outside of your comfort zone yesterday all that should come from it is you realize a segment of MCing you want to avoid, or a segment you want to embrace and work at.
LemonHead, any chance of you two coming up next weekend? I know it's quite a hike up there. I plan on trailering to my inlaw's place in Wausau since I am bringing my family and then setting out from there.

I can't speak for TJ but I've already been home longer than I should so count me out this time. I gotta learn to plan better. Hard to do. Some of these rides are impromptu. Def. want to though!
How does around 10 sound? It should be about 2 - 2.5 hrs to get to Eagle River on the backroads. Stop for chow and gas, that will put us back on the road around 2 maybe, getting us done before dinner.
Check post #38 for my route. Let me know if there are any torn up roads so we can adjust. I haven't been on any of these for a while other than 47. Some I haven't been on at all :001_smile:

Here is my first go at a proposed route for September 4th. I don't know road conditions so tried to stay on major roads and resist the call of the side road twisty. If anyone has better ideas fire away. Typed it local so everyone will understand the directions.
Start - Shawano
47 nort to M (Neopit)
M east to 55
55 nort to 32 (Crandon on the way for a stop)
32 nort to Eagle River (Chow time, gas)
70 east to 139
139 sout to 8
8 sout to 32
32 sout to AA
AA to M
M to 55/47
55/47 back to Shawano
butt massage
245 miles / 5:35:00
Looks like a good one to me....Sent you a PM with my phone #'s.......

If you ride the Wing you could always keep Rez company in the back

Lemon head if you got a lil uncomfortable recognize that, then figure out why and take it EASY. How long have you been riding?
Not enough to do 600 miles in one day comfortably.
Yeah. I rode a little faster than I should have at times but I usually reeled myself in. I'd love some track time but it's not in the cards yet. Plus the niner isn't a caddy.
Lemon 600 miles is a lot for almost anybody I was more saying recognize when you're outside of your comfort zone and bring it back a notch or two. I can't tell you how many people Ive seen eat it over trying to keep up or show off, leave that to the squids.
Wing it!! Wing it!! Nothin' wrong with bringin' up the rear! ...somebody's gotta play tailgunner! Might as well be me. As for Fly's route, I highly approve!! Just did that ride last werkend again. HWY 55 is undergoing improvements but is still an amazing ride as always. I only have one very minor suggestion regarding the last 20 miles or so, I vote we cut west a few miles earlier so we can ride the entire twisty portion of 55 back to Keshena. Again, very minor, same amount of miles, much better road, much better experience. Can't wait!

That's the point where you can take over lead

Just got back from Best Buy with a brand new Sony HD Camcorder. We will have video documentation from behind the windshield of the wing...This camera is too cool. It sure aint no GoPro! (Please excuse the grammar)
If anybody wants a copy,I'll bring a laptop so byomc. (Bring your own memory card)
I've never been much of a "tourer" so this was actually my longest day in the saddle. Everything was up for it except my right wrist. Fingers went numb. Think maybe it was the newish rain gloves cutting the circulation. The Corbin made 4 hours a breeze.
My little $6 ebay HD video camera works too, even in the rain. Mounted it on the fork reflector bracket. 16GB of memory should get me maybe 4 hours...hopefully. You're my backup with your fancy new camera.
