DFW meetup: BBQ in the burbs?

So the monkey from http://www.wristtwisters.com/f94/rel...ica-27188.html is scheduled to make it to Dallas on July 15 or 16. Are any of you Dallas folk interested in getting together for the charring of animal flesh, consumption of frosty beverages, and kicking of tires up in Allen that weekend?

The arrival of a stuffed monkey seems like as good a reason as any to host a bbq.

Looks like we're aiming at the 16th for arrival. XR and myself both have issues with making it up there on Friday.

Cool, the 16th works for me, though I don't know if I will still be able to host a shindig or not. Last night, I broke down and asked the bf to move out, and I think he is shooting for doing it that day, provided he finds a new place very soon.

Well, we can always turn a local tavern/pub/bar/shack into our shindig spot if need be. High 5 for telling him to GTFO. I hate seeing people stay in a situation because they don't have the gumption to say something.

I'm taking it up to New Mexico to meet up with some of the Colorado faction. Details have yet to be arranged though.

I just went shopping for motorcycle boots (yeah I know, girl gets stressed, girl goes shopping), where the sales guy gave me 10% off and told me about a $90 track day on July 24th. So the monkey may have to wait and extra week or two to make his journey. Its like a sign from above that I need to go to a track day, right?

Argh, I've been dying to try a track day, finally have the gear and the bike is mostly prepped...but alas, I will likely be in far far west texas the weekend of the 24th, playing in the sand hills. Oh well! Go tear it up, show the boys how it's done!

I may show for BBQ. Pass along the details when you have them. Just got back from NM myself last week. Fun riding the mountains, but hot as hell up there and back. I'll pass along a few nice roads/routes if you're interested.

Definitely do the track day. Awesome fun! I'd like the details on that 90 deal, as well. Were you at MotoLiberty?

lol, that'd be one hell of a long-distance relationship!

I couldn't even keep one going that was 20 miles apart... Of course I was 15 and had no car at the time, so there might've been mitigating factors.

Haha. I'm not single, boys. Not yet anyways. I just suggested he get his own place, that's all.

And Jay, yes I was at MotoLiberty. They have way too many cool things there. I bought boots and got the heck out before I spent money on things I don't need. I picked up a flyer for the track day at Eagles Canyon. If you visit all three sponsors (MotoLiberty, Honda Suzuki North, and one other that I can't remember atm), and pick up a business card from each, you get $9 off of the $99 price.

ML is the coolest gear store around. Love that place. Get on their email list and definitely go anytime they have one of their sales where the lady brings her Italian beef. It's awesome! She won't give up the recipe, but I've come fairly close. Hers is still the best, though.

Just realized I can't do the track day. Will be coming back from a week's vacation that day. Bummer. You should go for it, though.

Lucille, what are your thoughts on us moving the monkey drop to the 23rd? It'd work better for XRCajun and myself.

Since Lucy will soon be single, maybe she can be the monkey. We will need to change the name to "Relay to Rickard".

that would bring a new meaning to the phrase spanking the monkey. j/k it would not be right for all of us to start giving lucy a hard time... just a few of us and it sounds like rickard has dibs anyways

You guys are nuts.

beefsalad: The 23rd works much better for me, too. You two gonna stick around for the track day on the 24th? Its only $90...

And rickard, do you know how to weld? The next guy I consider has to have a useful skill or two to offer.

Good call on getting a guy who has some skills. I am a carpenter and have other skills. I am also in Canada.

I checked out eagles canyon and didn't see anything scheduled for the 24th. Sure that its not on the 31st?

I have a Lincoln MIG welder.

You're welcome to come over and use it. Not into the instant family thing, though, so I'm not in the hunt. Good luck to the rest of you guys.

Well I am not doing any track day, I'm happily married for 8 years, and I have very little mechanical skills. That said, I am in the DFW area and would like to meet up with some folks to eat grub and tell tales.

ok, drama update:

1. The bf isn't moving out until August. Argh.

2. My place is available on the 23rd as a grilling/gathering spot, or we can meet up at a local eatery somewhere.

3. The cute Honda shop guy is trying to talk me out of the track day on the 24th. He keeps reminding me that I'd have to leave crazy early to get there, that its gonna be hot as balls all day, and I'm gonna be exhausted on the long drive home in the heat. Basically, he's trying to tell me that I'm going to be miserable by the end of the day. He suggests that I wait and go to a track day when its cooler out, and my bike can potentially be trailered to the track. I hate waiting. And I hate when men actually have a valid argument. I told him I was going to go register for it just to spite him.

I wonder if my local MotoLiberty has signup info....time to investigate!

Ugh, he does have a point. I know I wouldn't be able to make the trek home after a track day, and I've been pondering if it's worth the effort to do. If I were dragging the bike in my cage up, it'd be a completely different story.

Yeah, it'll be hot as hell. No problem on the ride home, tho. I had so much fun at the track that I hardly remember the ride home. Only thing I remember about it is pulling in for gas just before I got on the freeway and remembering that I hadn't put the headlight fuse back in. Lol.

Exhausted? Probably not. You only ride for 20 min and then have 40 min between sessions to get in the AC, listen to the instructors, and cool down. No problem. Now, you will have to leave way early to arrive on time. Big Deal! It's worth it! $99 is a way cheap deal, and I would go for it if I was going to be in town. Weather won't cool off until October, and then it's rainy season. I did a track day in October and we had water seeping from under the track in a corner due to recent rains. Bunches and bunches of riders went down. My 2cents says, Go for it!

I think I'm going to skip this track day. By the time I buy decent gloves, rent leathers, and pay for registration, the costs really add up.

I just have to make it look like I didn't make the decision based solely on the shop guy's advice. I can't let him think he might have been right.

I mentioned to him that I'm going to wait and go to a track day when it cools off. His response was something along the lines of "so you're actually going to listen to me?"

I told him not to get used to it.
