The wife & I are comin' back to the the land we love for an extended Labor Day Weekend, let's get a group ride (or two or three) organized!
We'll be driving West all day Thursday, Sept 1
and driving back home on Wednesday, Sept 7
Anything in between is fair game.
My initial draft of our trip would be to head to Colorado Springs, spend a couple days riding & sight seeing down South,
then perhaps on Sunday we'd move up North of Denver to explore the more familiar parts & head home from there.
If we can get everyone together for a big group ride, that would be really cool.
If we do smaller groups on different days, I'm totally fine with that too.
Post up your availability for getting out for a ride over the holiday weekend,
hopefully we can put together a group to include everyone.
Wow, you guys are going to be here for almost a week! I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again!
Since you're going to be in the Springs, I think it would be a shame not to go ride up Pikes Peak...There are a few folks already interested in doing that...I'd also recommend that we ride south to the San Isabel Nat'l forest and go see Bishop's Castle, too!
Awesome!

Well, this is really Omaha's get together but two possible ideas if people can swing it
First; Find a common meeting area on Friday gear up and go down to Bishops Castle come up hit a brewery in down town COS. then on Sat meet up early at my house and then go do Pikes Peak and hit a brewery or BBQ at my house for dinner.
OR we can do the whole local tourist thing around town on Friday (except Pikes Peak) go out to a great local Brewery that night for dinner. Then Saturday have everyone come down meet at my house around 11 and then head up the mountain. On the way up we can stop for lunch at Wines of Colorado. It is a great little bistro right at the turn off to the Pikes Peak Highway featuring a list of wines all from.... you guessed it COLORADO! Then it is about two hours up and down the mountain. After that another brewery or BBQ at my house.
All of us her know CO has more micro breweries per capita then any other state. And every one of them with unique twists on all the classic styles of beer.

Well I have Mon - Fri off every week. But I have to work on Sat and Sunday. I am putting in for that weekend off right now but I don't think I will get it I am up for a ride any time during the week. As you know, I am in Fort Collins; let me know if I have to come down south to meet up during the week. Thanks for the PM on this.

Thanks man. we should do that again, it was fun. Ya, a lot has happened since I saw you last. Broke my neck in Jan. (Jan 19, day of freakish snowstorms) I was in my truck, luckily, lost control and ended up in on coming lane. Hit head-on with another truck (bigger) at about 60mph. Left me in the hospital for 8 days and months of recovery. Truck was totaled and I ended up with a titanium plate on c5 and c6 and a cadaver insert where my disk use to be. I am back on the bike and getting stronger. I bought an EVO neck brace and will not go riding without it on. Bike is in tip top shape and ready for a nice ride. I hope I get a chance to meet up with all of you soon.

Damn Jim!! Glade to hear your safe and on your way to a healthy recovery!!!
Omaha,
If this has gone out to another forum then I say Breweries would be the best bet for dinners. My wife wouldn't be too please having a lot of people at the house she doesn't know. They say to pick your battles and that's a battle I'm not going to pick. A small group sure a large group no.

We'll be driving West all day Thursday, Sept 1
and driving back home on Wednesday, Sept 7
Due to recent circumstances with a Lay-off, I'll likely be going back to school. Classes start Tuesday Sept 6, so I might be driving home on Labor Day :^(
I'm currently investigating my options for classes / new job,
I'll update this thread as I know more.
I just got off the phone with an adviser at the local community college,
I'm officially signed up for 3 classes in the fall quarter!
My first class begins Tuesday, September 6 @ 5:30pm
The one thing I'm nervous about is that 2 of the classes I'm signed up for are full & I'm #1 on the waiting list.
So I'm gonna need all the thoughts, prayers, juju... whatever you can send in hopes that someone's punk kid doesn't show up for class
I've adjusted my vacation schedule a bit,
so we should be arriving in Colorado Springs Wednesday evening, August 31
and will be driving home on Monday, September 5 (Labor Day)
Still looking forward to Pikes Peak on the weekend.
I already have a degree of applied science in graphic design, so I didn't want to do a whole second degree. So I'm picking out the classes that fit my interest from the Electronic Imaging & Media Art program:
I've got my eye on an internship at an agency close to home that's being advertised as 20hrs/week.
This would go hand-in-hand quite nicely with the classes I'll be taking.
I sent them my resume yesterday so we'll see how it goes.
Boy, things sure happen quickly when you don't hang out on this site.
Well, I am still on board for some weekday riding. I did not get the days off I had hoped for. I will stay posted to see what solidifies for rides during the week. I would rather not go too far south. I am in Fort Collins.

NICE!!! You wont freeze your ass offf....Oh...wait....you have been in the 110's for over a week so the 80s will feel cold to you! I know in Iraq 120 outside 90 inside and you wanted a jacket inside! The top of the peak you will need cool weather cloths.

So I might have to work on Friday the 2nd. I was sick the other day and had to cut into my vacation time to cover it. I am going to see if I can work extra that week and still be able to take that day off. If I can't we can all still meet up for dinner at a nice brewery not to far from your hotel. I get off at 8pm on Fridays. I will have the whole weekend off still so Pike Peak on Saturday is still on! Maybe we should get a head count on who is going to ride on both Friday and Saturday.

Wednesday night you get in
Thursday I work so you can do tourist stuff if you like or go for a ride
Friday I am now off again. We can rise down to bishops castle and depending on when Mary us due in we can meet up with her and then do what ever suits us for the rest of the day.

Thursday: tourist stuff / sight seeing / hiking Friday: ride to bishops castle, round out the day with more riding Saturday: PIKES PEAK!! Sunday: Jill & I are thinking about heading up north in the morning to cut a couple hours out of our trip home on Monday.
We'll probably do some more touristy stuff / sight seeing / hiking... unless northerners want to ride some more
This is speculation at this point but still quite likely.
I'm headed out to the garage right now to finish constructing a contraption to allow me to jack up the bike from below the frame sliders with a trolley jack - so I can adjust the forks in the triples for faster turn-in...
Then all I need is some time to test the GoPro & my bike will be ready.
Thursday: Drive across Texas. Camp in Clayton, NM
Friday: Clayton to Bishops Castle (~ 3.5 hours). I imagine I will be on the road by 7 or 7:30, so I should be able make it to there sometime around 11am on Friday. Up for anything in the afternoon.
Saturday: Pike's Peak
Sunday: Head back to Dallas.
I've never done anything like this before, and I'm starting to get nervous about it. I'm used to riding in Texas, where it is warm, flat, and dry. If you guys have any sage advice that'll help me survive this adventure, I'd love to hear it.

Heck Mary, I think you should start a new thread just for this!
lists like this can become endless. are you camping out, or staying indoors?
as Inigo Montoya would say, "let me 'splain...no, there is too much. Let me sum up..."
I'm sure you know how to dress in layers, right? You're an outdoorsy kind of lady, if I remember right...how are you set up for backpacking/lightweight camping? Almost everything crosses over to motorcyle touring.
I will just stick to clothing items here.
I really don't know what you have in the way of riding gear...a jacket, yes...but do you have riding pants? if yes, wear them. that's your outer layer. wear jeans & a t-shirt (long sleeve preferred) under that. bring a pair of longjohns or sweats...definitely bring rain gear, t-storms can pop up quickly and will be gone quickly, but riding 500 miles after getting soaked & chilled takes a lot out of a person.
other than a change of skivvies & socks, and an extra t-shirt you wont need a change of clothes probably. Your extra layers ARE your change of clothes.(and a quick load at the laundromat is easy, just in case). pack a small shower kit. packing space is priceless. bring a spare set of shoes for when you're off the bike, to give your boots & your feet a rest. Something that packs small like Converse or Keds is ideal. the shoes maybe can be skipped in favor of sandals/shower shoes.
There endeth this lesson. I can advise you on other stuff if you'd like, too. let me know.
