B.C., Alberta swarm Aug 28-29

I know that SIB and firedave are going to be in and around Banff on 28th-29the of Aug. Mr.t81, Z1-jockey and I are in for a 2 day ride the same weekend. Anyone else in for a 2 day ride or even the first day? Mcromo44? Rgweist? Farmer Joe? Southoftheborder? Shadow? (I think you are close now...no?) Anyone and everyone is welcome to join.

SiB, you and firedave have plans or just out riding?

Just riding, the only plan we have is to do some laps around the old highway 1a divided section.

We are thinking Grande Prairie to Jasper on friday (27), then Saturday burn around the park (28), and Sunday back to GP (29). Just ideas, don't really care in the end.

You have to understand there aren't a lot of people out here; some days two is a swarm!

We were thinking to Banff and them wouth on the 93 to Radium and then we would like to head down toward Cranbrook. That is where some of the best roads. I guess that is a little too far south for you guys however. We could meet up in Banff and go to Lake Louise to Golden, Radium and split from there.
Anyone have any other ideas?

This sounds like a great little trip! It's a little far for me to make it from Colorado, I havent been able to make it up to the PNW (let alone Canada) this year like I wanted to, my ambitions have gotten a bit ahead of my bank account! I hope you guys can manage to meet up though, and have a good safe time! post lots of pics!

Lol, yeah that was the plan...turns out life had other things in mind for me, though...long story. I am kinda bitter about how that all worked out, but I do think its for the best. Besides, I like Canadians and for that job I'd have to constantly be a dick to everybody!

Two guys I know are wanting to leave Edmonton friday after work to make the good times last a bit longer. How would you guys feel about meeting in Jasper friday evening?? it's about the same distance from Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie?? We'll be able to make it further into B.C. saturday. Just an idea for now...

If that's the case we would have time to go west on #16, south on #5 and hit #6 between Vernon and Nakusp which would be the best HWY ever to be on with the bike. Or even take #1 back to Revelstoke and Golden.

How many hours from Golden to Grande Prairie, can you guys use HWY40 or is that still gravel?? The map I'm looking at is pretty old.

Just did a quick search on Mapquest, Jasper to Kamloops 5hrs-9mins, Kamloops to Golden 4hrs-47mins and Golden to Grande Prairie 8hrs-57mins

Don't know how much riding you guys want to do??

Hwy 40 is paved and nice. Here to Jasper is quite a way as it is not even close to straight line. I think FireDave and Sib are planning to be down here on Saturday morning. Not sure. SiB, FireDave? What you guys got planned? I was kind of going to go on their schedule more than anything. If you and the other guys leave Edmonton Friday, are you going to camp somewhere?

We are definitely going south on highway 40! There is some crappy pavement that might slow us down to 140km/h.

Friday - GP to Jasper (stop in Grande Cache and Hinton for gas)
Saturday - Ride around jasper and Banff parks... no real plans but end up in Jasper again for the night.
Sunday - Jasper to GP

That's our loose plans, we just usually wing it. Depending on things, hotels in jasper and weather..... but yea....

Are you talking highway 40 south of the Number 1 or somewhere else? Are you guys going to go to Lake Louise? We could all meet there, if that works for you.

Looks like a nice ride. As long as the road is in good condition. From there are you taking Hwy 93 south? I am just wondering how far south you two will be.

Hey wallybanger - from OSB are you eh? I hope you make this ride.

I live in Vernon, hopefully we meet on one of the local rides soon.

I wish I could make this ride as well, but not this year I'm afraid.

Would this help convince riders from Calgary that it's not far to Lake Louise?

Cochrane is just to get outside the city and a good place to meet.
People from the south can come up the 22. From the east Stony Trail.

Cochrane to Canmore is a decent ride and wakes you up watching for the few spots of poor pavement (and bad drivers).

Canmore to Lake Louise is one of the nicest roads around, people come from across Canada to ride it, and now it's freshly paved!

SiB : This is probably the divided road you heard about. I believe west bound is the best.

So after Cochrane it's really only about 80km to Canmore and about 80 more to Lousie!

two other guys -RC51 and BMW- said they might be coming but they're not sure. They also mentioned something about leaving friday after work, I might leave with them friday and meet the rest of the "Hornet crew", wherever you are, saturday morning. They might come with us or go on their own from there

Gents,

I am off to Newfoundland on Monday, get home around midnight on Friday. I'll probably be an absolute wreck when I get home. I'll watch this post and see what your time and locations are like for Saturday. If I can, I'll meet up / tag along on Saturday. It'd be nice to meet you all, rickard919 being the only one I have met.
