the first three trackdays of the year, March 11-13, will help me decide if I wish to continue the sportbike aspect of track riding or pursue the motard aspect of track riding. If I don't absolutely love it then I'll decide to sell it to someone who will... I'll look softly and deeply at the bike and say, "it's not you, it's me. sorry sweetie, go give your special love to someone who's worthy."
I did just spend 3 hours cleaning the garage and took it down the street for a short blast after letting it warm up.
That roar will give you goosebumps!
ok, that's it! Just installed some frame plugs and bar end plugs. I've been hitting the nooks and crannies with toothbrushes and q-tips. It's not getting any cleaner. 14 days until decision time.
a few updates.
As I mentioned in another thread I replaced the passenger pillion fabric with new red vinyl from the local Joann Fabrics. Took a bit to get it fit properly and my electric stapler requires a perfect shot to sink the staple completely but I got it done and it looks brand new.
Put the stock street plastics back on last night.
I took a trip to Ace Hardware yesterday to browse the nuts & bolts section looking for black bolts to replace the chrome bolts that hold the 2 piece side panels and windscreen in place. I found ones I was happy with and picked up 27 of them along with rubber washers and nylock nuts. I custom cut them to length with a Dremel cutoff wheel. Installed them along with the black dzus fasteners and have to tell you. The black hardware on the red plastics just pops and looks great. Makes me want to replace the silver stickers with black for a complete black on red look.
If I decide to have the body repainted I'll go with black stickers.
Still need to change the tires, remove the slicks and put the street tires back on, maybe tonight.
oh yeah, report from the track. Ran Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Sunday Bill Staab showed up and I asked him his opinion on the suspension settings. In 5 seconds he determined it was set up entirely too stiff which was exacerbating the pogostick effect. It also explains why the bike settled down when pushed really hard (because the suspension only started working when pushed that hard). He softened things up quite a bit so the suspension would actually work for spirited riding instead of all out race pace. helluva improvement.
Nowhere near as fast as my '05 600RR, it's okay. . .my track days are over.
After I finished modding the 919, I turned to the 748 to continue my sickness.
I can say that it too is done. . .
