Back in Oct of 2008, I put the 748 on Craig's List for a day. I took off the market thinking it was a mistake selling it. . .
Even after pulling the ad, this one guy kept emailing me and finally offered me more than I was asking. After finally talking to him on the phone, we found that we knew each other!! Long story short, I sold it. If I were going to sell it, it would be to him. He takes great care of his bikes. He then pumped at least $4k into it making it that much nicer. Seeing it again after 6 months, the Italian beauty is looking rather gorgeous . .I started regretting selling it.
Well this is what happened so quickly. . .I found a gorgeous 998 for LESS than what I sold the 748 for. And here is my "new" Italian love affair (she'll have to share that love with my 919!):
There's a '99 900SS for sale locally I'd love to get my hands on, but I just can't afford to own 3 bikes. It looks like it's right off the show room floor.
Here's to those with OCD who's bikes benefit from the madness
Nice find Roy!!!! Another gorgeous addition to the stable! So what's first on the list of mods????
LOL!!!
I'm so glad it came with that new Leo Vince 52mm full system. . .ahem, well over $2.3k just for that! Yikes!!! I have full floating Brembo rotors and a few more carbon fiber bits in the mail. I have 12-point Ti rear axle nuts sitting in the garage. I'm looking at a NCR (German) rear billet sprocket holder.
That's it for now. . .for a long while. The boss is looking over my shoulder. . .the wife.

Well the love affair was wasn't even a fling with the 998 above^^^^. I pulled the plug on the purchase. When the seller already had my money, he disclosed the title wasn't as clean as he thought it was. What the &%#$@%#!!!! Long story short, I got my money back. ---A few days later this Italian girl comes prancing along with clean shorts, I mean clean title. Now this is REAL love. . .
I found her on Ebay. Reserve wasn't met. I contacted the seller a few days later to see if it was still available. . .it was. I was able to get her below the reserve. This 998 is nicely spec'd out:
Thanks Mike!
I was looking at the new R1 for fun. It's a very, very nice modern sportbike with modern electronics. For the money, I'd buy the new Yamaha superbike over a new sexy Ducati superbike and still have a good chunk of change left over. ---The whole idea of another bike escalated from that kind of thinking. The 998 with its Testastretta powerplant (the refined version of the old Desmoquattro that the 748, 916, and 996 has) is a dream bike of mine. Classic sexy great looks with a friendlier bigger powerplant (maintenance wise). I never really wanted to fork out the big dollars for one. The current poor economic climate helped me get this fine example. Some people need the cash as the 998's seller. It has tons of $$$$$$ thrown at it. He still has a Hypermotard. ---I may sell the 919 to cushion my purchase's blow to my savings as well.
Congratulations. I am glad you got the second 998 since its the better S model with Ohlins rear, damper and 4 pads Brembo caliper. The Marvics, Ohlins R&T and Spiegler master are really nice (read 'expensive') additions. My buddy has a 996s with the same Arrow system. Sounds great when he backs off the throttle.
Haha Roy, I don't think any of your bikes is ever really "Done"! That bike came with a mind-boggling list of exotica already thrown at it, and you've just added another VERY impressive list of parts to drool over!
Congrats on a truly amazing bike!
Whenever I get all the issues sorted out with painters, powdercoaters, and machinists, I'll hopefully have a bike that's even half as impressive!
Gotta say that I think Ducati makes the nicest looking sport bikes. If I were to add third bike to my collection, it would have to be a Duc. Great job 9nineteen!
