got a versys

Well I got one. Actually a week ago. I'm just a little slow lately with computer stuff. Very busy when the weather gets warm.

So far is an awsome bike. 09 Blue. I'd attach a pic but it looks just like every other 09 blue versys that is stone stock. Picked it up for 4500 and it only had 4700 miles on it. Probably the most practical machine I'll ever own. THe 650 twin is a gem. Smooth at anyting over 2000 rpm (1500 is NOT smooth). I love the sound it makes between 5000 and 9000. Its not fast by any stretch of the imagination. But it is entertaining to ride. And it feels happy at moderate speeds and just plodding along. I never feell like I should be at WOT. Such as when I'm on the CBR. Of coarse it can do a wheelie it prevoked but that about it.

The bike likes to be turned more like a dirt bike. I guess its due to a very up right seating postion and wide bars. Not sure. But it does corner well enough. Ride is smooth and supple (6" travel suspension).

So I'll have a winter project on my hands. Supeing her up to hang with full on adventure bikes. Traxxion makes a cartridge to get a good bit of wheel travel, and unlike the 800 adv bikes out there the traxxion kit will have full adjustability. That, some home made lugage and she'll be ready for some grocery getting and mtn climbing.

Still have the 1000. But its on the selling block. As everyone predicted. No one wants naked bikes. So there isn't much interest in it. Can't say I'll be upset if I have to keep her. Its a mean looking bike with a need for speed.

they are a very nice bike. Excellent engine.

A few of them racing in NZ with some success in their class too - taking on the SV650's and smaller capacity inline 4's.

Nice. I looked at those before landing on my 919. Plenty of aftermarket stuff out there.

Allan, are you sure you are not thinking of the Ninja 650? Same basic engine/frame. I'd have a hard time seeing the versys tearing it up against SVs.

So far it is nice. I really miss haveing crazy power. But then again I haven't done anything that would warrant my arrest since I had it either. Its much nicer to ride int he miserable rain soaked weather the mid west has been having this spring.

Ah - you are right! Still now I'd like to see the Versys with some sticky 17's tearing it up like a motard!

I think it's a little too heavy for sumo. My barber has one and he seems to like it

Looked around the web for info on those things. I'm very interested. Z1000 engine on a bike with big sadle and dirt bike ergos. Not that the z1000 is uncomfortable. But a versys is even more so.
To bad its crazy expensive for what it is. Canada gets one. We do not. But the price is up there. And it has silly electronic gadgets all over it. No thanks.

I want more power. The 650 is dead slow. But I'll keep tiny tim and get an old analog zx14 if I really want some power.

why would anyone buy the versys when the z1000 is an option? The z1000 is even slightly cheaper...no brainer in my book!

The V and the Z1000 are very differentt animals indeed.

I wanted another adv bike but wasnt' willing to pay the prices to get one marketed as an adventure bike. So I got a used versys for 4500 bucks that was in like new condition. It gets 50mpg all day long no matter what I do to it. Its a super cheap comuter/tourer.

Congratulations. The Versys is a neat bike - effortlessly docile around town and has enough juice to go touring. I enjoyed test riding one but alas, it wasn't in the budget.

And as far as mods go, the sky's the limit. V649HP-Kawasaki's new gravel runner - ADVrider
