So, I get back from NYC and New Jersey at a reasonable time today. Actually, in time to see the end of my girls swim meet. So, I decide to take the RC. It's probably been 2-yrs since I threw a leg over her and rode. I think it was with H_Ryder and C_Mulford the last time.
Her battery is dead. Not really holding a charge ... screw it. I jumped it and started her up. I threw the jumper cables in the tank bag just in case.
To my ears, I have yet to hear anything that sounds as good as Sato mids on a RC51! The closest thing would be a 1098 with a complete carbon Termignoni system (a whopping $3k!!!!!).
At first, she was cramped. I went down the road saying, "what am I doing?" Well, when I opened her up on a back country road from my house to the interstate. Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I missed her so. The soul, the character, the passion, the solid feel of the Sato rear-sets! A nice right sweeper onto the interstate and pure joy. I got off on the way to the swim meet to hit a few curves. Everything that I always loved about the bike just came back.
I know she not the hyper sport bike of today. She's not the quickest, she's not the fastest, etc. But, to me she's still HOT!
I'm glad I brought the cables, had to use them again. The ride home was exhilerating!
The funnest part of the evening was when my girls came out of the swim meet and said, "Mom! Daddy bought another motercycle!" They even forgot I had this one in the garage. There mother at first agreed with them and said, "you don't have any bikes that small." Later she recognized it and was okay.

We have a guy that rides one here at work. I always stop and take a look at it. I have to find someone who will let me ride theirs.

You have to have tons of seat time and learn what you can and cannot do on it.
My R1 would destroy my RC in every category.
BUT mid corner, no bike has ever been so stable under me.
How about a ride to tampa & back??? ...and 3x's to Deal's Gap?!
Was out playing last sunday & out cornered every in-line in the group, from gsxr1k's, R1's, cbr1k's & a few 6's... but straights are another story.
Maybe they just got nervous when they heard the "growl" coming up from behind them.

Sadly, yes it sat for a long time. Along with others.
Those are only the ones I speak of ... sadly there are more?!
There is a long time and then there is two years. Its beyond me how anyone could let a bike sit for that long, especially an RC. By that point it seems like it would make it to a better home, where it would get plenty of exercise and fresh air. Do you store it dry?
If free time is scarce, it's better to have a bike ready & waiting in case you can seize even a short moment. Life's a bitch sometimes - it dictates your schedule to you & riding is not on its list of priorities. It sucks having to choose between keeping a job and/or family or having the priviledge to ride.
It can either be harder to deal with knowing there are unused toys in the garage or easier. Half full or half empty? I say half full & on its way up.
At one point, having 0 fun time for several years straight, I unloaded three cars & three bikes before they depreciated any further and kept my nonrunning Turbo which has turned out to be my alltime favorite.

Always prepped and ready to go. Oil and filters are always fresh and ready to go. Tire inspected and properly inflated. I'm horrible about keeping batteries on trickle charge. I don't like keeping this plugged in while I'm not home traveling for work. I know its no big deal, just my little hang-up. I had to replace three batteries so far this year. I'm not certain if others will need to be replaced at this time.

Oh the joy of being young and single!
There are few things above riding on my list. Just off now due to injuries. Only a couple months out right now though...
I miss my RC too. I rode that thing 22,000 miles, 3 trackdays, a half dozen race weekends, and only 2 offs (both at the track).
The guy I sold it too ended up off the track at over 140 and completely destroyed it.
Every time I see Billy B's bike here at work I miss having mine with my 2-into-1 system. It was loud and glorious but also instilled massive confidence in the corners.
I've thought about parting and selling the RC, but I just can't. It's worth more to me, than selling it. What will I get for it with all the mods? Maybe $6k. Not worth. The grin factor I get from hearing it and riding it every now and then is sweet!
I'm not certain if I'll by a "brand new" bike for awhile. There really is nothing that excites me. I'm on an old school hunt right now. I can find several old school jems for the price of one new bike.
The only new bike right now may be a left-over '07 XR650R if I can't find a great used example.

I enjoyed reading this thread...I sold my Superhawk last year due to work issues after being away for 3 months but since I've owned a twin I really like em. I've had inlines in the past. With that being said, everytime I heard or saw an RC I loved it. The looks, the sound, the ability of the bike itself (which I will never be able to ride it as hard as it was built to be ridden)...It's an awesome machine and now very well could be a collector. So in Sept. of this year, after looking around for about a month, I picked up on 04 Hayden Edition RC. I absolutely love this bike and have no intention of getting rid of it. I just added a set of Sato low mounts, PCIII with a DK tune and did a few of the other normal mods and this has to be one of the best sounding bikes out there. It has great resonse now and the power is awesome...Yeah it lacks the power of some of the newer inlines out there but this bike has character. I love riding it and wish I had more time to ride it but I make the most of it when I can
coming up on 30k mis. on my '04.
...bbq at Mike's should put me over.
A buddy of Ridge, NCtarheel and myself has an uncle whos 2003 just hit 43k and other than a bad body pannel ,it looks like it just rolled off the Sr floor - except for the neumerous goodies he has put on it - Great bike -

i had to pull the sheet off my RC today and start it. When the honda dealer opens later today, i'll be going to pick up a few woody decals for it. Soon the muddy roads will be dry enough to get to the asphalt, and it will be game on!
