I have real mixed emotions over this one. On one side I see what surely was a talented kid that got a chance to start early. On the other, I see adult enablement of repeated excessive risk for what was a child. Note I said adult, and not parental, the enablement was way beyond just his parents. It really does call for pause to think about it all. I can speak with some authority on this, having 3 kids myself, now all adults. Helmets for heads, because no busted heads allowed. If a bone breaks, that's OK. Anything viewed as excessively risky, no funding and no suppport. In particular, Mom & Dad don't buy engines or things with engines in them. This from a Dad who dabbled in road racing years ago, karted for a number of years, and now does lots of track day miles. Different parents will have different views of what is OK/Acceptable/Desireable in terms of Opportunity & Risk for their own kids and the kids of others. I feel terribly for Peter's family.
