Welded in a steering collum, set the links and attached the bars, looking good. Welded in 2 drag links form axel to frame, seems sturdy. Just when I think I'm gettin okay with the welder I realize I suck at this and do it over...hope they hold. The front end is done, now to finish setting the track and drivetrain.I'm wondering what other riders think of this project...I wont take offense, any input could be helpful, and I'm gonna finish it anyway,...any thoughts?Posted 10-17-2010 at 09:12 PM by rb550four

Bolted up the track (drive end) tonight.Clamped in the drive housing, I'll have to make new mounts for that.Waiting for new chain and two 17 tooth drive sprockets, once that happens I'll know exactly where to put the shaft mounts. After that it's gusset everything ,clean it up and paint the frame.I'm thinking of having a new shaft made so I can get some disc brakes on this machine....they could come in handy.Posted 10-18-2010 at 07:07 PM by rb550four

Okay,I've given this welding shit my best shot, not pleased with my performance today. I've been a carpenter for 30+years and I can do wood, metal maybe not so much. But until Honda comes out with a woodenframed motorcycle I have no choice but to keep on keepin on. Maybe it's the welder f'in up....yeah, that's it ,it's the welder. I'm hoping for a better tomorrow.Posted 10-20-2010 at 07:13 PM by rb550four

Today I welded in shock towers to the rear of the frame. Set in the stock shocks, just because. Put a cover over the track, doesn't look as cool as without a cover but my local snowmobile shop keep informed me that if I don't cover it ,I would be getting an assload of snow, this would decrease rideability and personal comfort. This is one of those times that others input can make this project work better, doesn't look as cool, but the ride will be more enjoyable. Pulled the motor, cleaned up some hard to get to nasty welds and then it's paint time. Paint will clean it up allot, can't wait.will post pics after it dries.Posted 10-25-2010 at 06:48 PM by rb550four

Got home a little early today, just enough time to paint, used left over gold color from another bike ,not quite enough left for a great color coat, but good enough for what I'm doing I guess. Have an engine ready to go in tomorrow I hope.I'm gonna have to take the pipes from#4 and trade them with #6 unless there is another set lurking around the barn, and put a header on #6.Liking the headlight on the 1100 Kaw, looks like snowbike headlight to me.Posted 10-26-2010 at 09:04 PM by rb550four

Engine is in,mounted and secure . Pipes came off #4 and on this machine. questionable wiring harness from #7 is going on this machine as there will be a dice and splice activity happening to make room for all the new gears that will occupy the old battery's position and the rest of the wiring will be moved back. got a hold of some chrome diamond plate ( love that shit) for the instrument panel and other trim...it's gettin there.Posted 10-28-2010 at 04:01 PM by rb550four

Oh oh,questionable wiring harness from #7 turns out to be trash, looks like a totally custom wiring job is in order since I would be slice and dicing it anyhow, NAPA in the morning to get some wire and stuff for this weekend, this should be fun.Posted 10-28-2010 at 07:01 PM by rb550four

There was enough harness left to warrant slice and dice instead of going all out. Most everything in the headlight coil and ignition area has been revamped. iI built a diamond plate box under the passenger end of the seat, just above the beginning of the track to house the battery and other components. Have another 10 or 12 wires to extend, was going to void the electric start since the kick start functions easily but what the hell, gone this far, and kicking ain't as much fun as it used to be. I'll try to send some pics tomorrow. I have throttle cables and stuff on order ,should be in this week, it's getting close.Posted 10-30-2010 at 06:16 PM by rb550four

The new throttle cables came- installed. The ignition switch for a cb550 f came in, 4 wire set-up, this one is a 550k with a 5 wire set-up so ,the 4wire will go into#6and the 5 wire is on order. The more I look at #6 the more I think it may look good as a cafe racer...clubman bars...dark green paint with goldish metalflake...yeah, I have some nice Italian aluminum wheels, yeah. It's a '72, seized engine,no carbs, been outdoors for a long time....I think it's saying "save me". Alright, but you'll have to wait till the snowbike is done. There is another engine on it's way on the bench that's looking for a new home. Pics on the way, forgot how to get them out of the camera.Posted 11-03-2010 at 06:43 PM by rb550four
