Daaamn I'm sore

Posted 11-28-2010 at 11:05 PM by beefsalad

I caged it to my brothers house in far far far west Texas. I got pretty lucky, the day I rolled in the temperature dropped below freezing. I assumed we'd be stuck in doors bored out of our minds. Turkey day was the next day, so the chance of getting of the couch was damn slim. The next day, they called for a high of 60. We thought about it, talked about it, and around noon we were all about it. Loaded up his quad and dirt bike and headed to one of his favorite riding spots.

The quad is actually his wifes, but she rarely uses it. We knew the battery was dead, and the gas was iffy. 45 minutes of pulling the quad behind the truck and pulling several straps apart, we finally got the damn thing running.

As I haven't ridden a dirt bike in probably 20 years, and didn't know the area, I hopped on the quad and followed him on to the lake bed (it's mostly dry, most of the time...) and he gives me a quick tour of half the perimeter before we start messing around with the variety of terrain. It doesn't take me long to get the courage built up in most situations, within a couple of minutes I was jumping the quad with as much enthusiasm as my brother on his dirt bike. Granted, I had a bit of trouble keeping up (250 4 stroke quad vs 125 2 stroke bike) but at least I was trying. My brother knew I've been dying to try the dirt bike, and I'm pretty sure he was dying to see me loop it trying to ride a wheelie.

Long story short, 4 hours worth of aggressive riding on both the quad and the bike have left me...sore as hell for the past 2 days and with a smile that didn't wear off until I stepped foot in the office (yeah, big fan of my job at the moment...) and with a bug that I'm mad at him for.

I'm considering selling my 'spare' 9er and the gs450 basket case so that I can put a dirt bike in my stable. Of course, if I do that I'll probably sell off the Audi and my s-10, and go get me a real truck. Or at-least something less ragged than the s10 and more utility than the Audi (can't really haul a motorcycle in the my trunk...)

Keep the bike, ditch the cars and get a Tacoma. Then go get yourself a nice cheap used 125cc or so dirtbike and haul it around in the awesome truck. Yeah I had one. Taco that is. If you need to feel justified, buy the dirtbike, then get the truck to carry it.

As a side note, have you seen Bucky's civic? Who says you can't haul a motorcycle in your trunk.

my 97 s-10 is paid off and I've gotten my moneys worth, but with 223k miles on it, it has seen its better day (granted the transmission and clutch are somewhat fresh...) It handles like a shithouse on rollerskates and it's not worth the money to fix it up properly (twisted frame, etc...)

The Audi is far from paid off, so isn't worth much but not so worthless I'd take a sawzall to it so I could fit a motorcycle in the trunk a-la Bucky style.

However, I'd be willing to trade off the Audi for a Tacoma assuming insurance/payment would be about the same (half of what it currently is would be nice, and possibly attainable)

I found a yz125 locally for a hell of a deal, until you factor in that something is likely drastically wrong. It has a fresh jug, the stator "went out" and he "doesn't have the tools to fix it" which is funny, in the pictures of it the stator is removed and you can see what appears to be rust in the cavity where the stator goes.
