Well - guess I've gotta start somewhere...

I've been dying to tell a story, now I've got something to talk about... my motorcycle, my shenanigans, my life.

April 22 was my son's sixth birthday, and his mom was planning on getting him a bicycle...

I guess this might have been the source of my longing...

The week of his birthday, I suddenly woke up with a desire to look at motorbikes again, since I haven't ridden in 15 years.

The next day, I went down to my local Honda dealer, and asked him if he has any sort of Cafe Racer style bikes... he said "how about the 919" to which I replied, a what?

so he showed me the bike. All logic and reason left me, as I was sure this was what I'd bee looking for.

While my son was with his mom, I picked up some cheap leather gloves, borrowed a leather jacket, and bought the cheapest helmet I could... then I took the bike for an hour test drive... and bought it as soon as I got back to the dealer.

Purchase Date - April 25, 2009 - 25,000km

9er down

Well, it apparently happens to most, sooner or later, thankfully I guess, it happened to me.

I was going a little too fast in the suberbs, when I shifted down a little too aggressively going into a corner... my back end skipped, then wobbled violently after going over a manhole cover, and I panicked...

An oncoming car was approaching on the inside of a left hand corner, and rather than push the bike into the corner, I pulled it up... laid 100' of rubber on the pavement...

Modding Fever

So, now that I got myself the bike, I thought I'd start to do a little research into it... found a few good resources, including LDH's 919.org website.

Well, I was a little cautious of the jerkiness with the throttle in 1st gear, so I immediately ordered a 17T front sprocket, installed it, and am quite happy with what it does.

That was the only modification I intended to do... though I did peak, and the flapper mod had already been done, as well as SS brake lines on...

Original Configuration

Posted 06-23-2009 at 10:47 AM by rgweist (9er in Your Mirror)

Since I wasn't the first owner of this 919, I guess I'll have to give some credit to the previous owner...

The dealer first advertised the 919 as having CRG bar end mirrors, LED signals, Fender Elimated, SATO exhausts, PCIII, CF side panels, CF windscreen, and all original parts...

After being unable to sell the bike, the started parting it out... removed the bar end mirrors, the pipes, and the PCIII... but didn't drop the price or update the advertisement online....
